Description
The Office Assistant 2 will provide administrative support for all bureaus within the Division of Medical and Dental Directors. This includes proof-reading written documents, preparing documents for issuance to contractors and the public, gathering and compiling information from documentation provided, monitoring shared email boxes, scheduling meetings upon request, updating calendars, and maintenance and organization of program documents using electronic filing systems.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

Non-Competitive NY HELPS Minimum Qualifications
One year of experience where most work time is spent performing various communication tasks centered on customer service, and primarily, but not exclusively, deal with the general public.

Competitive Minimum Qualifications
Current New York State Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as an Office Assistant 2, Grade 9, OR current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent or contingent-permanent status in a title at or above a Grade 7, and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

Provisional
Current competitive or non-competitive 55-b/55-c NYS Department of Health employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service in an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher. Employees appointed via the NY HELPS program to a qualifying title in the non-competitive class will have their names restricted from appointment from the eligible list until their position is covered-in to the competitive class by action of the New York State Civil Service Commission or otherwise obtain permanent competitive status in the position.

Preferred Qualifications
Strong communication and organizational skills. Familiar with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams.

Additional Comments
This position is part of the NYS HELPS program. No examination is required.

Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
