Job Overview
The Quality Technician performs advanced quality functions in a manufacturing environment, supporting production, new product launches, and customer requirements. This role owns quality performance for assigned product lines, leads problem‑solving activities, supports PPAP submissions and ISO‑related work, and performs advanced CMM and fixture inspections. The Quality Technician serves as a key resource on the shop floor, answering operator questions, ensuring accurate inspections, and helping maintain high standards for complex, high‑quality products.
Responsibilities
Perform hands‑on inspections using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools to verify product conformance.
Read and interpret engineering prints, including weld symbols and GD&T, to accurately calculate measurements, tolerances, and inspection requirements.
Conduct advanced dimensional and visual inspections of tubular metal and sheet metal components, assemblies, and fixtures throughout the production process.
Support and participate in PPAP submissions and customer approval activities to ensure products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
Perform advanced CMM and fixture inspections for complex parts, assemblies, and tooling, and document results clearly and accurately.
Support ISO‑related activities, including maintaining documentation, participating in audits, and helping sustain certification requirements.
Lead or actively contribute to quality problem‑solving efforts, using data and root‑cause analysis to identify issues and drive corrective actions.
Collect, analyze, and report quality data to monitor product and process performance for assigned product lines.
Work closely with the manufacturing floor team, answering operator questions and providing guidance on quality standards and inspection methods.
Support new product launches by validating quality requirements, assisting with initial inspections, and helping establish robust inspection processes.
Perform quality checks throughout the production process for metal materials, focusing on tubular metal and sheet metal operations.
Collaborate with production, engineering, and other cross‑functional teams to maintain an organized and efficient quality process.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and follow all applicable quality and safety procedures.
Essential Skills
3–5 years of hands‑on inspection experience using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gauges, and related precision measuring tools.
3+ years of print reading experience, including weld symbols and GD&T, with the ability to accurately calculate measurements and tolerances.
Strong shop math proficiency, including metric and standard conversions, fractions to decimals, tolerance calculations, and basic trigonometry.
High school diploma or equivalent combined with formal quality control training or substantial on‑the‑job quality experience.
Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably supporting production on the shop floor.
Demonstrated ability to perform quality inspection, quality control, quality assurance, and quality checks in a production setting.
Strong blueprint and drawing interpretation skills for basic to mid‑complexity parts and assemblies.
Hands‑on experience working with operators and production teams to address quality questions and inspection requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience supporting PPAP submissions and customer approval processes.
CMM operation experience for complex part, assembly, or fixture inspection.
Experience working with ISO requirements, audits, or certifications.
Prior involvement in new product launches or leading quality problem‑solving activities.
Background in product quality within an automotive or similar manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with a wide range of precision gauges and inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
Ability to perform visual inspection and use judgment to identify nonconformances.
Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach when working with production and cross‑functional teams.
QC training through school or structured on‑the‑job programs.
Work Environment
This role is fully onsite at a 250,000‑square‑foot manufacturing facility on the southwest side of Indianapolis. The environment is clean, comfortable, and includes moderate noise, good temperature control, and ample space. The production floor comprises shipping and receiving, packaging, forming, welding (brazing and soldering), lathes and mills, pressure testing, and other processes. The culture emphasizes teamwork, trust, and low levels of micromanagement, with many long‑tenured employees and strong knowledge‑sharing. The schedule is Monday through Friday on a standard full‑time basis, with a 3:00 pm to 2:00 am shift focused on quality checks throughout the process for tubular metal and sheet metal products. Team members can expect a consistent 40‑hour workweek, with occasional flexibility as business needs arise.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 – $24.00/hr.
