Business Loan Officer
The Business Loan Officer is responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of commercial loans, including commercial real estate, business credit cards and equipment financing. This role involves originating and evaluating loan applications, performing preliminary underwriting analysis, and structuring credit solutions that align with both business member needs and institutional risk guidelines. The officer will work closely with credit teams to ensure sound decision‑making and compliance with internal policies. Additionally, the Business Loan Officer maintains strong relationships with business members, supports the Business Services department, and contributes to the overall growth and quality of the loan portfolio.
Originate, evaluate, and process business loan applications in accordance with credit union policies and regulatory guidelines;
Perform preliminary underwriting functions, including analyzing financial statements, assessing creditworthiness, and determining appropriate loan structures;
Collaborate with analysts and underwriting vendors to ensure thorough risk assessment and sound credit decisions;
Structure loan terms and conditions that meet both the member’s needs and the credit union’s risk tolerance;
Maintain a pipeline of prospective borrowers through networking, referrals, and community engagement;
Acquire new business clients through targeted outreach and referral development;
Consult clients to identify financial needs and recommend appropriate products and services; cross‑sell to deepen relationships;
Effectively manage business client relationships to ensure satisfaction and retention;
Support the Business Services department by assisting with business loan production and related activities;
Assist in the maintenance, decisioning, and monitoring of the Business Credit Card program;
Participate in the collection efforts for delinquent accounts, foreclosures, and liquidation of business accounts;
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure clear communication and understanding of business services offerings; provide training as needed;
Monitor existing loan portfolio for performance, compliance, and renewal opportunities;
Provide financial counseling and education to business members as needed;
Stay current on market trends, laws and regulations, and lending best practices;
Compliance with all Credit Union policies, regulations, and laws applicable to carrying out duties and responsibilities;
Present a helpful and positive attitude, focusing on solutions and promoting a collaborative environment at all times;

Comply with established regulations and law requirements;
Perform various other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in commercial lending or financial services;
Strong knowledge of business financials, credit analysis, and loan documentation;
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills;
Proficiency in loan origination systems and Microsoft Office Suite;
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities;
Experience with commercial lending programs;
Familiarity with local business community and economic development initiatives;
Bilingual skills are a plus.
Skills, Education and/or Certifications Required
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience);
Preferred working knowledge of current Windows OS and MS Office software, Word, Excel, Power Point and Teams;
Must be capable of performing in a fast‑paced environment;
Strong processing, analytical and problem‑solving skills;
Protect credit union’s image by keeping commercial loan information confidential;
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Possess a strong work ethic and team player mentality;
Highly developed sense of integrity and commitment to member satisfaction.
