Job Description Appellate Attorney Senior Appellate AttorneyPosition OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Appellate Attorney to join our team and manage complex appellate matters from briefing through oral argument. The ideal candidate will craft compelling legal briefs, perform deep legal research, develop persuasive appellate strategy, and represent clients before appellate courts. This role requires superior writing, analytic ability, and courtroom presence to achieve favorable outcomes on appeal.Key ResponsibilitiesDraft, edit, and file appellate briefs, petitions, responses, and related legal documents with clarity and precision.Conduct exhaustive legal and factual research to identify controlling authority and novel arguments that support appellate positions.Develop appellate strategy in collaboration with trial counsel and clients, including preservation of issues and standard of review analysis.Draft and argue motions related to appellate practice, such as stays, emergency relief, and jurisdictional challenges.Prepare for and present oral arguments before state and federal appellate courts, including moot court practice and persuasive advocacy.Review trial records, transcripts, and lower-court opinions to identify preserved and preservable issues for appeal.Manage case workflow, deadlines, and court rules to ensure timely filings and compliance with procedural requirements.Advise clients and colleagues on appellate risks, remedies, and potential outcomes, communicating complex legal issues clearly and professionally. QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to the state bar; admission to relevant federal courts preferred.Minimum 35 years of appellate litigation experience, including drafting briefs and presenting oral argument before appellate courts.Demonstrated excellence in legal writing, research, and appellate advocacy with samples of appellate briefs or published opinions.Strong knowledge of appellate procedure, standards of review, and motion practice.Experience working with trial records, transcripts, and complex trial documents to identify appealable issues.Excellent oral advocacy and presentation skills; comfortable arguing before panels of judges.Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines independently while collaborating with trial teams and clients.High standards of professionalism, ethics, and client service.
