
Helpdesk Specialist

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Work under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager performing standard and complex laboratory procedures. Maintain accurate and timely record of test results; apply standard quality control procedures to assure accuracy of test results; operate, calibrate and perform routine maintenance on specialized equipment; maintain supply inventory; collect data; organize and centralize files and records; and prepare solutions, reagents, media or stains for prescribed tests. Exhibit individual initiative, work independently; be technically proficient and accurate; effectively communicate in both written reports and presentations; initiate and ensure compliance with applicable safety procedures; and possess attention to detail.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Perform chemical analysis on a variety of environmental sample types through wet chemical techniques or by using lab instrumentation
-Be familiar with operations, maintenance and troubleshooting of a variety of analytical instrumentation
-Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation
-Prepare reagents and standards
-Maintain organization and housekeeping with the laboratory
-Perform data analysis and prepare reports for internal and external customers
-Assist in improving
-Perform daily building checklists, maintenance and housekeeping
-Assist the management of quality, audit and other external assessments
-Take overall responsibility for health and safety in own areas of responsibility
-Ensure that appropriate risk management processes are operational
PRE-HIRE REQUIREMENTS:
-Bachelors degree in the Physical Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Biology) or Engineering or equivalent in education and experience.
-1 to 2 years of laboratory experience.
-Plus if they have experience with ICP, XRF, pH, DR
POST-HIRE TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
-Environmental training applicable to the job
-Safety training for applicable equipment
-Job instructional training
-Quality system familiarization
-OHSAS 18001 familiarization, hazards and risks
