Role Summary
We're seeking a Senior Cloud Desktop Engineer to architect, deploy, and operateenterprisescale Windows 365 and/or Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)environments acrossmultiple global regions. The ideal candidate has ledendtoend, production deployments (not POCs), understandsmultiregion user experience, and can combinearchitecture, automation, security, and operationsto deliver a consistent, compliant platform at scale (25,000-30,000+ users).
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Deployment
Design and deliver multiregion Windows 365/AVD platforms for25k-30k usersincludingprovisioning policies, device sizing, application placement, image strategy, and regional deployment waves.
Select and implementnetwork connectivity models(e.g.,Azure Network Connection vs. Global Secure Access) and determine when VPN is required for Cloud PCs.
Definecutover plans, pilot criteria, success metrics, rollback plans, and knowledge transfer.
Networking, Connectivity & Global Access
Engineer resilientglobal connectivityfor Cloud PCs; troubleshoot crossregion connectivity and latency issues; optimize routing and bandwidth usage.
Establish standards forDNS, routing, and identity flowsacross regions; evaluate and implementGSAwhere appropriate.
Image Creation, Hardening & Lifecycle
Build, harden, and maintaingold imagesfor Windows 365/AVD usingIntune, MECM/SCCM, MDT, and/or thirdparty tooling.
Optimize images for performance (e.g., logon time, disk I/O, Teams optimization), enablerepeatable patchingandregional consistency.
Security & Access Control
Implementmandatory security controlsfor Cloud PCs: MFA, Conditional Access, device compliance, baseline hardening, Defender/EDR, DLP, and data exfiltration controls.
Designprivilege elevationprocesses and tooling (e.g.,BeyondTrust, LAPS) aligned to least privilege and auditability.
Enterprise Management & Tooling
Operate and scaleIntuneto10,000+ devices, balancing Intune policies,GPOs, andthirdparty toolsets.
Recommend and integrate advanced tooling forinventory, software delivery, observability, and remote supportbeyond baseline Intune capabilities.
Performance, Monitoring & Troubleshooting
Define and trackVDI KPIs(e.g., logon time, CPU/memory, disk I/O, session stability, Teams/Zoom optimization).
Diagnose performance issues across regions; mitigate securityagent overhead; drive root cause analysis and durable fixes.
MultiRegion Architecture & User Experience
Design forconsistent UXacrossNA, EU, and APAC, consideringdata residency, compliance, andcrossregion latency.
Align application distribution (SaaS, onprem, virtualized) withnetwork topologyanduser proximity.
Configuration as Code & Automation
Manage platform configuration as code usingAzure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Terraform (or equivalent); establishversion controlfor Intune/AVD artifacts and CI/CD pipelines.
Automate image pipeline, policy deployment, and environment validation.
Application Delivery Strategy
Determinebase image vs. dynamic delivery; package and deliver applications viaMSIX App Attachor equivalent technologies.
Optimize realtime collaboration apps (e.g.,Teams, Zoom) for Cloud PCs.
Data & User State Management
Define data strategy acrossOneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, and traditional home drives; implementuser state managementfor VDI.
Supporthybrid scenarioswhere specific apps requireonprem storageor lowlatency access.
Minimum Qualifications (MustHave)
7+ yearsin EndUser Computing/VDI/endpoint management;3+ yearsleadingproductionWindows 365 or AVD deployments.
Proven endtoend responsibilityfor at least oneenterpriseWindows 365/AVD deployment (not a POC), ideally>10k usersandmultiregion.
Deep expertise withWindows 365 and/or AVD,Intune,Azure AD/Entra ID,Conditional Access,MFA, anddevice compliance.
Strongnetworkingfundamentals (latency, bandwidth, routing, DNS) andAzure networking(VNets, peering, vWAN, Private endpoints); practical understanding ofANC vs. GSA; experience assessingVPNrequirements for Cloud PCs.
Handsonimage engineering(creation, hardening, optimization, patching) withIntune/MECM/MDT
and consistent flighting across multiple regions.
Proficiency inPowerShelland at least oneautomation/IaCplatform (Terraformpreferred; Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions for CI/CD).
Demonstrated ability tomonitor and troubleshootat scale using AVD Insights/Azure Monitor/Log Analytics (or equivalent).
Experience implementingprivileged accesssolutions (e.g.,BeyondTrust, LAPS) anddataloss prevention/exfiltrationcontrols.
Preferred Qualifications
MSIX App Attachpackaging and dynamic app delivery experience.
Experience withFSLogixuser profile/container strategies and profile performance tuning.
Exposure toCitrix(or other VDI) in hybrid or migration contexts.
Familiarity withITILpractices andenterprise change management.
Relevant certifications:Microsoft Certified: Azure Virtual Desktop Specialty,Azure Administrator, or equivalent.
