Position Overview: The Payroll Specialist performs skilled and responsible clerical, record-keeping, and computational work related to the accurate processing and distribution of employee payroll and benefits. This role requires a high level of accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to manage deadlines in a dynamic environment. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements / Qualifications:
Copy of Transcript (High School Diploma or equivalent required. College transcripts can be submitted in lieu of the High School transcript or diploma. If you have completed coursework in accounting or finance, you should attach your college transcript.)
Letter(s) of Recommendation (At least 1 signed letter from a professional reference (preferably drafted within the past two years, and on letterhead))

Comments and Other Information:
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligibility list to fill an anticipated vacancy in the Fiscal Services Department. The start date is contingent upon completion of fingerprinting and TB clearance. This position is based in San Luis Obispo at the District Office within the Fiscal Services Department. Candidates who successfully pass the initial screening and submit all required documents will be invited to take an examination scheduled for May 26, 2026. Details regarding the exam date, time, and location will be provided to qualified candidates after the screening process. Candidates who pass the written examination may be invited to participate in oral board interviews, which are also planned for May 26, 2026. Successful completion of the oral board interview is required to be placed on the eligibility list. The top three (3) candidates, based on combined exam and interview results, will be invited to a final hiring interview (date to be determined).

Veterans who qualify for the oral board interview may receive an additional five (5) points added to their final score (in line with applicable Personnel Commission guidelines), provided proof of discharge is submitted at the time of the interview. For this purpose, a "veteran" is defined as any individual who served in the United States Armed Forces or National Guard during a time of war or national emergency.
Eligibility lists are valid for a period of six (6) months. No late applications will be accepted.
