JOB SUMMARY:
To plan, initiate, and supervise the most efficient, economical, time-saving, and safeststudent transportation system for the division area by maintaining accurate records, evaluation of both employees and equipment, and working with parents and school personnel in solving problems; thus insuring an adequate safe environment for student transportation. Assist in selecting school bus operators, school bus aides and maintenance personnel as needed. Responsible for routine and scheduling of school buses, operate a bus when needed, relay instructions to transportation staff, plan emergency routing of buses and promote good relationship with parents, public, bus operators and other employees.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.
Plans, and initiates and supervises the safest and most efficient, economical, time-saving student transportation system for the students of Kanawha County.
Bus driving duties when necessary.
Assists in providing proper training of new drivers and retraining of drivers as needed.
Acts as a resource person for problems dealing with pupil transportation for parent, driver, and school personnel.
Recommends transportation needs to the Administrative Assistant for Pupil Transportation.
Maintains accurate records pertaining to student's transportation.
Handles necessary telephone calls with employees and the public.
Represents the Administrative Assistant or Transportation Office as requested.
Assists with planning, development and implementation of driver training.
Requests needed repairs of the roads and bridges to the appropriate division of the Department of Highways.
Works with parents and school personnel in solving discipline problems and other concerns.
Changes bus schedules to meet emergency situations.
Ensure the efficient operation and safety of the students, through proper training, evaluation and checking of both the personnel and equipment.
Keeps current statistics necessary for reference.
Works with principals in developing safety procedures and dealing with discipline problems while on school buses.
Administers transportation for different established student summer programs.
Assists in employee and public relations and accident investigation.
Responsible for inputting and maintaining schedules on computerized routing system of Kanawha County Schools.
Meets regularly with Administrative Assistant and other supervisors in the Pupil Transportation Office.
Follows the established personnel evaluation procedures in evaluating bus driver and monitor aide performance.
Utilized self-appraisal for the improvement of administrative skills.
Demonstrates unbiased attitudes in fulfilling administrative responsibilities
Maintains regular attendance.
Maintains a neat and orderly work area.
Complies with KCS Policies.
Complete necessary training and in-service as required by KCS.
Attends in-services and workshops as directed.
Follows all safety rules and regulations and uses prescribed personal protective equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Also, a valid school bus operator certification including commercial driver's license, with a minimum of five (5) years of school bus operators experience working in the transportation department of a county board. Must have knowledge of the ability to plan and route Pupil Transportation Services safely, effectively and efficiently. Strong supervisory and communication skills as well as knowledge in the maintenance of school buses required. Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Performance in this position will be evaluated annually by the Bus terminal Supervisor in accordance with WV State Code 18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5314, and KCS's Guide to Performance Evaluation for Service Personnel.
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school by maintaining an orderly and disciplined bus environment, reporting misconduct, rule violation or mechanical problems to the principal or bus terminal supervisor. This position is not assigned a route. The person in this position will be expected to take any regular run assigned by the terminal Supervisor. Bus drivers are generally assigned to an eight (8) hour day.
GENERAL PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
An employee working for Kanawha County Schools is expected to comply with all the Kanawha County Schools Policies and Procedures, including maintaining regular attendance and completing all required training. Employees are required to follow all safety rules to maintain a safe workplace. Specifically, a Bus Operator is expected to perform all duties outlined in WV State Board of Education Policy 4336.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Job Duties.
Transport students safely to and from school daily, and acting as the Supervisor for all students in their custody and control riding the bus both coming to and going from the school.
Performs pre/post trip inspections to ensure the operation of equipment is properly maintained and safe.
Learn routes, including pick up and drop off locations.
Assists and supervises students with disabilities.
Communicates with students, parents, school officials and supervisors.
Completes proper paperwork.
Be able to installs snow chains on a bus.
Secures a wheelchair.
Maintains cleanliness of the bus, that includes sweeping (daily) and washing the interior and exterior of the bus (weekly).
Reports the names and addresses of students riding the bus to supervisors and prepare a seating chart.
Prepares a monthly report for the Executive Director of Transportation, summarizing mileage, maintenance, extracurricular trips, fuel and oil consumption and passengers transported.
Responsible for safety equipment (i.e. wheel chair hook-ups and work with monitor aide, safety vest, lifts, car seats, etc.)
Drivers of lift buses are to check to make sure wheelchairs are properly secured and restraints are properly used.
All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a valid CDL license with passenger and school bus endorsements and a good driving record.

Must have at least three years of driving experience as a licensed operator of any vehicle.
Must successfully complete WV School Bus Safety Program and pass requisite online and skills tests.
