Systems Administrator V (System Administrator)
This position performs advanced (senior-level) systems administration work. Work involves coordinating the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of systems, including the TXCOMP and COMPASS applications. Installs and upgrades computer components and system software. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Qualifications:
This position:
• Oversees and provides guidance in troubleshooting and solving complex problems related to system software and hardware incident and problem calls, and in the processing of service requests and tasks.
• Coordinates and maintains the functionality of the systems environment, the implementation of technology solutions, the development of server upgrade plans and procedures, and the security patching of operating systems and third-party software products.
• Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves system hardware, software, and networking issues; and provides status reports to management.
• Defines and manages the roles and access privileges of individual users and devices to a variety of applications to prevent unauthorized access.
• Develops goals, objectives, policies, and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the server infrastructure.
• Work within a project team to develop procedures and tasks required to perform system or software upgrades, troubleshooting, training, and maintenance on various agency systems.
• Design, analyze and implement server application installations for Unix, Linux, AIX and Windows.
• Analyzes and assists in defining disaster recovery procedures.
• May serve as technical team-lead on projects and may supervise the work of others.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
This position requires:
• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in computer science, management information systems, or a related field.
• A minimum of four years' experience in systems administration duties.
o Systems administration work above should include most of:
§ Unix, Linux, and Windows server administration
§ Scripting for automation such as KSH, Bash, Perl, Python or similar.
§ Middleware administration such as WebSphere, MuleSoft, or Red Hat JBoss EAP, or Apache Tomcat
§ Cloud platform administration such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
§ Experience using Linux Containers (Docker), Kubernetes or similar, and deployment of containerized applications/microservices architectures
• Regular work attendance.
• Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
Preferences for this position include:
• Experience working for a government agency.
• Understanding and practical application of core DevOps concepts, tools, and practices.
• Experience in implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines and containerization technologies using tools like Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Docker, etc.
• Experience developing and implementing a cloud migration strategy for enterprise systems, including planning, assessment, and execution of workload migration to public or private cloud environments, including containerized workloads.
• Experience working with RedHat OpenShift Infrastructure design, deployment and operational support.
This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:
• State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements.
• Systems administration of computer hardware and software configuration, troubleshooting operating systems and applications, and security administration in the physical and virtual environments.
• System and software security patching.
• KSH, Bash, Python, Perl and/or basic scripting knowledge.
• Computer networking, protocols, subnets, TCP/IP, firewalls, and cloud connectivity.
• Computer operating systems such as Unix, Linux, AIX and Windows.
• Unix, Linux and AIX users, permissions, and file management.
This position requires demonstrated skill in:
• Problem solving and critical thinking.
• Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
• Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs, such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.
• Unix system administration and basic Windows system administration.
This position requires the demonstrated ability to:
• Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds.
• Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments.
