Description

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for Deputy Sheriff - Patrol. This position is responsible for the enforcement of local, state, and federal laws and for the provision of services to the general public.

MAJOR DUTIES

Patrols the county to detect and deter crime and to provide assistance to the general public.
Enforces traffic laws; issues warnings and citations.
Responds to calls for service.
Identifies, pursues, and arrests suspects and perpetrators of criminal acts.
Prepares required reports.
Investigates automobile accidents; prepares accident reports.
Provides aid to accident victims and others requiring assistance.
Secures crime scenes and collects evidence; photographs or draws diagrams of crime scenes.
Obtains and serves search and criminal warrants; apprehends and arrests suspects.
Transports prisoners to court and other locations as assigned.
Interviews complainants, witnesses, victims, suspects and informants.
Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.
Provides security at school and other special events.
Escorts funerals and parades; provides traffic control at special events.
Assists emergency response personnel at fire and emergency medical scenes.
Serves on special teams and task forces as assigned.
Performs School Resource Officer duties as assigned.
Maintains security during court sessions as assigned; provides security for courthouse and annex operations.
Testifies in court as required.
Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, county ordinances, criminal traffic laws, and agency policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the boundaries and geography of the county.
Knowledge of criminal investigation methods, practices, and equipment.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system and court procedures.
Skill in the use specialized law enforcement equipment.
Skill in the operation of emergency vehicles.
Skill in processing, analyzing and preserving evidence.
Skill in operating emergency vehicles.
Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
Skill in the preparation of clear and precise administrative reports.
Skill in oral and written communication.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related law enforcement duties. The necessity of responding to potentially dangerous situations contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to enforce local, state, and federal laws. Successful performance helps contributes to the enforcement of local, state and federal laws and to the safety of life and property.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
The work is typically in the field. The employee is exposed to contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional inclement weather. The work requires the use of specialized law enforcement equipment and safety devices.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field is preferred; high school diploma or equivalent is required.
More than one year of related experience required.
Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver's license.
Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
