Fiber Network Operations & Documentation Specialist (Contract Position)

Overview

We are seeking a Fiber Network Operations & Documentation Specialist to support the ongoing operations of a large and growing fiber optic network. This role focuses on outside plant (OSP) fiber infrastructure, field coordination, and building accurate, usable documentation to support network reliability and scalability.

This is a handson, operational role supporting daytoday business needs rather than a shortterm project.

What You'll Do

Coordinate and schedule outside plant fiber activities, including splicing, testing, inspections, and maintenance
Serve as a liaison between internal teams, field operations, vendors, and customers
Schedule outages and manage change requests with customers and suppliers
Support access coordination for technicians and vendors across data centers and field locations
Locate, organize, and maintain network documentation, including fiber routes, assets, conditions, and maintenance records
Reconcile field findings with existing documentation to improve accuracy
Create documentation that enables NOC/IOC teams to troubleshoot and coordinate responses independently
Spend time in the field verifying outside plant assets such as manholes, handholes, conduits, and fiber routes
Review and analyze OTDR test results (handson testing not required)
Collaborate with engineering, operations, and leadership to support longterm network growth
Assist with transitioning handson work to field operations teams through improved processes and documentation
Potentially support customerfacing or sales engineering efforts over time, depending on experience and interest
What We're Looking For

Strong understanding of outside plant (OSP) fiber networks
Experience coordinating and scheduling field operations
Ability to read and interpret OTDR test results
Highly organized with a documentationdriven mindset
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable working independently across a large geographic footprint
Willingness to spend time in the field as needed

Up to approximately 25% overnight travel

Degree not required; relevant experience preferred
