The Nursing Program at Shoreline College provides real-world instruction in the in-demand healthcare field. We are approved by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission and nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Graduates pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX‑RN) at a higher rate than the national average.
The Associate Dean of Nursing provides leadership and direction in the development, administration, and management of the Nursing and Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC) Program. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating these programs to ensure excellence and achieve program outcomes and strategic goals.
Essential Job Duties
Assures program development and excellence
Facilitates development of long-range goals and objectives for the nursing program and assures that the rules of the Nursing Commission are effectively implemented.
Develops/maintains written policies of the Nursing Program that are comprehensive, provide for the welfare of faculty and staff and are consistent with college policies, as well as legal, ethical, and professional requirements.
Justifies differences in nursing program policies from college policies by the purpose and outcomes of the nursing program.
Uses assessment and evaluation strategies to maintain accreditation standards, regulatory standards in RCWs and WACS, American Nurses Association professional nursing standards, and Joint Commission safety standards.
Completes annual reports for ACEN, WABON, and the Nursing Commission and ensures faculty preparation for accreditation site visits.
Monitors and analyzes NCLEX results and data for program decision‑making.
Maintains current systematic plan of evaluation and uses evaluation data for program processes and decision‑making (ACEN Standard 5).
Notifies Nursing Commission of events per WAC 246‑840‑513 & 246‑840‑554 (3).
Establishes partnerships with communities of interest and professional organizations to promote excellence, enhance the profession, and benefit the community, including but not limited to the program’s Nursing Advisory Committee, the Council on Nursing Education in Washington State (CNEWS), and organizations such as the Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA).
Represents the program to Clinical Placements Northwest (CPNW).
Maintains current Affiliation Agreements with clinical practice agencies that specify expectations for all parties and protect students.
Develops articulation agreements with RN to BSN programs.
Assists with quarterly nursing pinning ceremonies and NCLEX‑RN licensure applications.
Maintains current Master Course Outlines for all nursing courses.
Coordinates activities with the faculty and student advisors of the Shoreline College Association of Nursing Students and the Nursing Honor Society of the Organization of Associate Degree Nursing Programs (OADN).
Faculty
Oversees quarterly schedules and room assignments in coordination with Division staff.
Facilitates the maintenance of faculty records with credential and licensure documentation.
Coordinates faculty assignments, workload, and professional growth.
Self
Maintains competence in the roles of educator and administrator.
Engages in scholarship and professional growth.
Learning and Learner Development
Facilitates student recruitment, selection, and advising.
Ensures that student policies and services support the achievement of the end‑of‑program student learning outcomes and program outcomes (ACEN Standard 3).
Leadership and the Educational Environment
Facilitates faculty development and performance review for full‑time and part‑time faculty consistent with the policies of the college and standards of professional nursing practice and encourages faculty to engage in continuing competence.
Facilitates faculty recruitment and appointment with a focus on acquiring faculty with diversity in ethnicity, gender, clinical specialty, and experience.
Evaluates clinical performance of nursing faculty in practice situations.
Recommends faculty for appointment, promotion, tenure, and retention consistent with college and WABON standards.
Participates in college and program governance.
Develops and maintains expertise in assigned responsibilities, including administration and leadership of the nursing program.
Ensures that faculty are educationally and experientially qualified for their assigned roles and responsibilities and are regularly evaluated to support the achievement of the end‑of‑program student learning outcomes and program outcomes (ACEN Standard 2).
Curriculum Design and Development
Ensures that the curriculum supports the achievement of the end‑of‑program student learning outcomes and is consistent with safe practice in contemporary healthcare environments (ACEN Standard 4).
Facilitates the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing program curriculum.
Resource Management
Communicates and makes decisions regarding program needs, budget preparation and monitoring, and involvement with College administration.
Administers and leads the nursing program; prepares the nursing program budget with faculty input; and administers fiscal resources allocated to the nursing program.
Program Development and Excellence
Facilitates development of long‑range goals and objectives for the nursing program.
Assures that WABON rules are effectively implemented.
Notifies WABON of events as identified in WAC 246‑840‑513, incident reporting, and substantive program change.
Guides the faculty in maintaining implementation of a current written Systematic Plan for Evaluation to determine the extent of the achievement of each end‑of‑program student learning outcome and program outcome, including program completion rate, NCLEX‑RN pass rate, and employment rate.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
WABON requirements: BSN degree from an accredited nursing education program and a graduate degree, or a graduate degree from an accredited nursing education program.
Preparation in education that includes teaching adults, adult learning theory, teaching methods, curriculum development, and curriculum evaluation, or two years of teaching experience in nursing education that demonstrates this type of preparation.
Curriculum development and administration experience.
Five years of experience as a registered nurse including two years in nursing education.
Current knowledge of nursing practice at the associate degree program level.
Experience with computer systems and clinical simulation related to teaching and clinical nursing practice.
Licensure
An active, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in Washington State.

Effective and clear communication in both oral and written English to a variety of diverse audiences.

The position also requires weekend and evening work when appropriate.

This is a full‑time administrative/exempt position. Initial salary placement is determined by the College based on education and experience. Hiring is contingent upon available funding.
