Position Purpose
Directs and manages assigned maintenance operations and special projects; maintains district facilities in excellent operating condition so that full use may be made at all times; provides project management expertise and ensures physical environments are functional, safe, and attractive.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides on‑site project management support for assigned special projects.
Manages the district portfolio of portable buildings including overseeing placements, relocations, and retirements; ensures facilities are available for student use when needed and proper permits are obtained in a timely manner.
Supports the Facility Master Plan including facility closure and consolidation planning, preparation, and execution; identifies opportunities for efficiency.
Ensures that assigned facilities are functional, safe, and well maintained.
Develops and maintains written departmental procedures for maintenance, repair, and operations of all assigned district buildings and equipment; ensures work orders are processed and executed in a timely manner.
Prepares plans and specifications for contracted repair work and site improvement, for submission to Purchasing department for bids.
Ensures compliance with federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
Compiles, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required including timekeeping records.
Develops and administers budget based on documented needs; ensures operations are cost‑effective and that funds are managed wisely.
Plans and directs inventory and stock control program for equipment and supplies.
Recommends disposal of obsolete equipment and purchases replacement equipment when necessary.
Initiates purchase orders and bids in accordance with budgetary limitations and district policies.
Approves and forwards invoices and purchase orders for the area maintenance department to the accounting department.
Participates in development of the district's disaster plan and is prepared to take an active role in responding to emergencies as needed.
Safety
Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures equipment is in safe operating condition.
Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff; and makes recommendations relative to assignment, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; district vehicle.
Posture:
Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and kneeling; occasional stooping, squatting, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting; may work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Motion:
Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding; regular grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.
Lifting:
Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds and over).
Environment:
Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; frequently works irregular hours; occasionally requires prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel.
Attendance:
Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
Mental Demands:
Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Education:
Accredited high school diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency required;
Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university preferred.
Certification/License:
Clear and valid Texas Driver's License required;
Insurable by the district's insurance carrier required.
Experience:
7–10 years' experience in maintenance.
INSURABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DRIVERS
Must be at least 21 years old.
No positive drug or alcohol tests including pre‑employment, random, post‑accident or reasonable suspicion.
No more than two violations during the previous 36 months including:
Moving traffic violations (including no more than one preventable accident);
Failure to provide proof of valid driver's license or proof of insurance;
Equipment violations.
No driving under the influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol.
No leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage).
No vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide.
No operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked driver's license.
No reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing.
No use of a vehicle in commission of a felony.
No operating a vehicle without owner's permission (unauthorized use or grand theft).
No permitting an unlicensed person to drive.
No speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit.
No history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle.
Additional restrictions may apply if directed by FWISD's Fleet Insurance Carrier.
