Elementary Art Teacher
Position at Stoney Creek Elementary School, Comstock Park, Michigan. This role will start in the 2026-2027 school year and can be assigned to Stoney Creek Elementary or Pine Island Elementary.
Summary
To create a flexible elementary grade program and a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students, motivate them to develop necessary skills, attitudes, and knowledge for elementary education; to build good relationships with parents and colleagues.
Responsibilities
Teach knowledge and skills associated with all aspects of K-5 art.
Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations associated with K-5 art education.
Provide instruction that helps students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations, and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing, painting, crafting, etc.
Understand a variety of art fundamentals, approaches, and techniques in art.
Apply elements of design and modern principles of art.
Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities.
Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse and to minimize distribution time.
Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings and prepare progress reports.
Plan and present art displays and exhibitions of students’ work for the school and community.
Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
Communicate with parents and school staff about pupil progress.
Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after-school staff meetings.
Perform any other duties as assigned by administration.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts degree.
Valid Michigan teaching certificate.
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is in accordance with the master agreement between the Comstock Park Educational Employees Association and the Comstock Park Board of Education. Position type: Full-Time.
Starting date: Immediately.
Final candidate will be required to provide a current Michigan State Police and FBI criminal record LiveScan check at their expense prior to recommendation to hire.
