Job Description
REPORTS TO:
Principal
SUPERVISES:
May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
PURPOSE:
To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Management of Instructional Time
– The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of each lesson; gets the class started quickly; keeps students on task; and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
Management of Student Behavior
– The teacher has established rules and procedures for routine administrative matters, student verbal participation, talk, and movement. They monitor behavior during whole‑class, small group, seat work and transitions, stopping inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.
Instructional Presentation
– The teacher introduces lessons with a review of prior material, presents objectives, speaks fluently, and uses concepts understandable to students. They provide examples, assign tasks, ask appropriate questions, pace lessons briskly, make smooth transitions, clarify assignments, and summarize main points.
Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance
– The teacher sets clear work standards, checks student performance during class, uses oral and written checks, and asks questions clearly one at a time.
Instructional Feedback
– The teacher gives corrective feedback to encourage growth, provides prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, and probes or clues when responses are incorrect.
Facilitating Instruction
– The teacher plans instruction aligned with school and system goals, uses diagnostic data to revise objectives, records student performance, matches strategies to needs, and utilizes available resources.
Interacting Within the Educational Environment
– The teacher treats all students fairly, interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community.
Performing Non‑Instructional Duties
– The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, follows laws and policies, and engages in professional development.
Other Functions
– Performs additional related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or a related area that will qualify for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Physical Requirements:

Ability to compare data characteristics.

Talk, hear, and use telephone.

Constantly monitor student safety during inclusive activities.
