Position Type: Support Staff/ Library Media Assistant
Position Overview
The Elementary Media Specialist supports student learning by delivering engaging instruction in technology and media literacy while managing the school's media center. This position fosters digital citizenship, supports classroom integration of technology, and promotes a love of reading and inquiry among elementary students.
Reports To
Key Responsibilities
Provide engaging, standards-aligned instruction in technology and media literacy for students in grades K–5
Use state standards to guide instruction and support student development in digital citizenship and responsible technology use
Teach foundational technology skills, including:
Basic computer operations
Word processing and multimedia tools
Presentation tools and digital collaboration platforms
Introduce and support the use of Google tools (e.g., Google Classroom, Gmail, Docs, Slides), with training provided
Promote media literacy skills, including evaluating sources and responsible information use
Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate technology into core instruction
Support students and staff in troubleshooting basic technology needs
Professional Expectations
Demonstrate the ability to quickly acquire new knowledge related to technology and instructional tools
Show enthusiasm for integrating technology into teaching and learning
Participate in ongoing professional development to maintain and expand expertise in educational technology and media services
Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in digital learning
Training & Support
Ongoing training and professional development will be provided, including support for Google Certifications and instructional technology tools
Qualifications (preferred)
Background in education, library/media science, or educational technology
Experience working with elementary-aged students
Familiarity with digital learning practices
