IRVING ISD
PAINTER JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is for current district employees who are not regularly scheduled during the summer months.
Primary Purpose:
During the summer months only, the employee performs activities related to painting all types of surfaces within schools, facilities, and other District properties.
This position is compensated at the midpoint of the FAC 05 Painter.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED, preferred.
Past experience working with the painting department for the summer paint program may be accepted in lieu of education requirements.
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of the use of painting equipment, such as brushes and rollers.
Ability to collaborate with your campus painting leads to schedule work requiring wall and surface restorations and prepping for coatings and coverings.
Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions.
Effective organizational, communication (verbal and written), and people skills.
Experience
Minimum three years of painting experience, preferably in an education environment, or past experience working with the painting department for the summer paint program.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Painting
Perform daily work assignments that require painting walls, floors, ceilings, and other surfaces at campuses, facilities, and other District property based on safety, necessity, routine or required scheduling, and special and sporting events.
Remove wallpaper and wall coverings when necessary.
Make sure the area is roped off for safety, and keep the painting lead aware of actions in and around the campus prior to leaving the job site.
Records and Reports
Complete written timesheet records of daily hours worked and submit to the lead onsite at the end of each week.
Exhibit professional, ethical, and responsible behavior and serve as a role model for staff and the public.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Safety
Practice a high standard of work and site safety in the performance of all duties and abide by District policies and procedures.
Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to supervisor, and being initiative-taking in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
No Supervisory Responsibilities
As needed, supervise district staff during summer-related projects.

Tools/Equipment Used:
Painting and drywall tools and equipment, including brush, roller, spray equipment, sand, and water blaster; small hand tools, power tools, measuring tools; light truck or van.
Posture:
Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positions
Motion:
Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting:
Lifting and carrying up to 55 pounds without assistance, more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance, on a daily basis
Environment:
Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regular work, irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
