CDL Truck Driver - Commercial

Job Summary
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and the type of truck. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pick‑up service for containers filled with waste or recyclable material, sometimes weighing over 1,000 pounds, and maneuver wheeled containers to pick‑up stages. They navigate high‑traffic, congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots and perform highly skilled backing maneuvers. Residential Drivers collect residential household waste or recyclable material, safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments, and similarly navigate congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating driveways, alleyways, lots, high‑traffic roadways, and tight overhead environments on industrial routes. All drivers rely on skilled backing maneuvers to perform their duties effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements, as well as all applicable local, state, and federal laws.

Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).

Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.

Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.

Work closely with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.

Notify the Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.

Notify the Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles that are too heavy to service, or potential safety hazards.

Communicate customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.

Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.

Follow route assignments as directed and complete the end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.

Perform all duties as scheduled by the Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.

Required Qualifications

One year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or one year equivalent military driving within the last seven years.

Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.

At least 18 years of age.

Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.

Class A CDL with an air‑brake endorsement upon hire, or Class B CDL with an air‑brake endorsement upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Compensation
The expected base pay range for this on‑site position is $25.00 per hour – $30.00 per hour. This range represents a good‑faith estimate. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
