PLC Technician - Per Diem Offered

Trillium Construction is seeking a skilled PLC Technician for a 7-month project in Kansas City, MO to oversee the testing, commissioning, and optimization of conveyor systems within a high-volume shipping warehouse environment.

This role is responsible for ensuring automated material handling systems are installed, programmed, tested, and fully operational prior to handoff to operations. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting abilities, experience with industrial automation, and the ability to coordinate with electricians, controls engineers, and operations teams.

Duties

Lead testing and commissioning of PLC-controlled conveyor and material handling systems.

Validate system functionality, including motors, VFDs, photo-eyes, barcode scanners, safety circuits, and HMI interfaces.

Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, controls, and communication issues during startup and operational ramp-up.

Perform I/O checkout, loop checks, and system integration testing.

Review electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams to ensure proper installation.

Coordinate with engineering teams to implement PLC logic modifications and system improvements.

Conduct system performance testing to confirm throughput and operational efficiency targets are met.

Support integration with warehouse management systems (WMS) and other automation platforms.

Document test procedures, commissioning reports, and system changes.

Train maintenance and operations personnel on system functionality and basic troubleshooting.

Ensure compliance with safety standards and lockout/tagout procedures during testing activities.

Compensation

Hourly pay between $35/hr and $45/hr, depending on experience.

Per diem at GSA rates.

Company-paid trips home.

Qualifications

3+ years of experience working with PLC-controlled conveyor or material handling systems.

Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), Siemens, or similar systems.

Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and ladder logic.

Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical controls and automation systems.

Experience working in warehouse, distribution center, or industrial environments.

Working knowledge of VFDs, motor controls, sensors, and safety circuits.

Ability to pass pre-employment screenings.
