Position Summary
The Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a renewable contract Instructor of Dance. This one-year renewable contract position begins August 16, 2026. Appointments to the faculty of The University of Alabama are based on the personnel requirements of the University’s academic programs and on the goal of achieving and maintaining excellence in its teaching, research, and service/academic citizenship activities.

Detailed Position Information
This non-tenure, renewable-contract instructor position will be responsible for teaching dance appreciation, dance pedagogy, composition and improvisation, dance history or aesthetics, graduate research methods, or dance anatomy/kinesiology, teaching studio dance techniques at all levels in modern, jazz styles, ballet, and/or non-Western forms, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate student teaching, choreography, and research.

All renewable contract assistant instructor are expected to engage in service/academic citizenship appropriate to their area and expertise. Additionally, they are expected to maintain a good level of performance in the classroom and/or other appropriate instructional settings and to contribute to the overall instructional effectiveness of the academic programs in which they have assigned duties.

Opportunities will be available to choreograph, rehearsal direct, or re-stage masterworks on students for the pre-professional company Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre and other dance productions, as well as coach student creative work and serve as artistic director for student-choreographed concerts.

The position will may also participate in the recruitment, mentoring, and advising of students at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Minimum Qualifications
Master of Fine Arts in Dance or related field. Record of successful teaching at the college and/or university level. Candidates should demonstrate a clear commitment to pedagogical approaches that serve all students, and a record of work using diverse and collaborative perspectives. Good communication and organizational skills are imperative.
