Middle School Teacher (Target Content + Target School) - STAR Master Teacher
Location: Meiser Middle – Metairie, Louisiana.
This is a full‑time position. Teachers selected for a target school in the first year receive a $2,000 stipend.
Target schools: schools with >90% economically disadvantaged students or >30% English Language Learners.
Target content areas: Special Education (all grades), Math (grades 6‑12), Physics, Chemistry, and English as a Second Language (ESL, all grades). Subject to change based on critical shortage areas.
To receive the stipend, the teacher must hold a Louisiana Level 1+ Teaching Certificate or an Out‑of‑State certification in the content area.
Scope of Responsibilities
Promote the mental, physical, emotional and social growth of all assigned students.
Performance Responsibilities / Essential Functions
Use instructional materials and techniques to provide opportunities for student achievement and development.
Demonstrate knowledge and application of appropriate developmental practices for young children.
Maintain accurate, neat records including class lists, attendance, health records, roll books, report cards and permanent folders.
Maintain an attractive classroom and report unsafe conditions when repairs are necessary.
Develop and implement proper classroom management techniques.
Complete reports, assignments and records in a timely fashion.
Collect lunch and/or activity money as required.
Plan and prepare lessons, submitting lesson plans weekly.
Report regularly and punctually to assigned work locations.
Notify the principal or designated person of impending absence.
Supply substitutes with adequate plans and materials.
Maintain class books and equipment properly.
Become knowledgeable about school methods, programs, curriculum guides, procedure bulletins and available resources.
Use a variety of methods for diagnosis and/or placement purposes.
Exhibit self‑control and decorum for student emulation.
Provide for individual differences.
Continuously evaluate student progress and plan with student needs in mind.
Cooperate with school‑based and central office personnel.
Encourage parents to be informed of the student's progress and needs.
Demonstrate professional growth, participate in in‑service training and contribute to faculty meetings and/or studies.
Conform to Louisiana laws concerning education, health, safety and welfare of students.
Assist in the development and implementation of quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools.
Plan for and actively participate in the evaluation process.
Perform all other duties assigned by the principal.
Minimum Qualifications
College degree.
Valid Louisiana teaching certificate.
Certification in the assignment area.
