Job Description
To ensure our students with the greatest need have access to high-performing teachers, the district offers a $2,000 stipend to teachers who select a target school for the first year. A target school is one with over 90% economically disadvantaged students and/or English Language Learners exceeding 30% of the student population.
The target content areas are Special Education (all grade levels), Math (grades 6‑12), Physics, Chemistry, and English Second Language (ESL) (all grade levels). To receive the stipend, the teacher must hold a Louisiana Level 1+ Teaching Certificate or out-of-state certification in the content area.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Promote the mental, physical, emotional and social growth of assigned students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Use instructional materials and varied techniques to provide opportunities for student achievement.
Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate developmental practices for young children.
Keep accurate, neat records: class lists, attendance, health records, roll book, report cards, permanent folders.
Maintain an attractive classroom; report unsafe conditions.
Develop and implement proper classroom-management techniques.
Complete reports, assignments and records in a timely fashion.
Collect lunch and/or activity monies as required.
Plan and prepare for classes; submit lesson plans weekly.
Report regularly and punctually to assigned work locations.
Notify principal or designated person of impending absence.
Provide substitutes with adequate plans and materials.
Maintain books and equipment assigned to the class.
Become knowledgeable about curriculum guides and available resources.
Use a variety of methods for diagnosis and placement purposes.
Explain self-control and decorum for student emulation.
Provide for individual differences.
Continuously evaluate student progress and plan with student needs in mind.
Cooperate with school-based and central office personnel.
Encourage parents to be informed of the student’s progress and needs.
Participate in professional growth, in‑service training and faculty meetings.
Conform to Louisiana laws concerning the education, health, safety and welfare of assigned students.
Assist in development and implementation of quality education in Jefferson Parish Schools.
Plan for and actively participate in the evaluation process.
Perform all duties assigned by the principal.
WORK ENVIRONMENT / HOURS WORKED
School setting, climate-controlled environment; outdoor areas subject to climate extremes.
Work day consists of teacher hours at the assigned school site according to bargaining unit agreement.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Effectively communicate English both orally and in writing.
Accurately give and receive information via tele-communication.
Communicate successfully and pleasantly with students, parents and school personnel.
EQUIPMENT USED
Telephone, audiovisual equipment, classroom computer, copy machine, laminator, calculator, and other appropriate machines.
PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT
Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting 10 pounds sometimes required; operate classroom equipment.
Physically transfer, restrain or position special education students as required.
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT
Plan and implement appropriate education programs for all students.
Understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
Keep accurate, up-to-date instructions.
Comply with state and parish regulations.
Use effective classroom-management techniques.
HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT
Work cooperatively with students, parents and school personnel.
Respond positively to supervision and accept suggestions for improvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
College degree.
Valid Louisiana teaching certificate.
Certification in area of assignment.
