Job Description
Position: Teacher (Health/Physical Education)

Location: East Lincoln Middle School

Qualifications / Requirements

Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area

Must be Highly Qualified

Preferred Certified Teacher

Must Coach multiple sports and preferred bus license

Goal: To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical achievement; and to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports in accordance with each pupil’s ability.

Duties

Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities

Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district

Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program

Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement

Provide individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil to the extent feasible

Teach physical education classes for handicapped pupils as necessary

Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure overall safety of pupils

Maintain control of storage and use of school-owned property

Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas

Evaluate each pupil’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports

Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities

Select and requisition uniforms, equipment, and instructional aids

Maintain required inventory records

Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress

Identify pupil needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems

Cooperate with school administration in providing specially performing groups for special occasions, PTA meetings, assemblies, and interscholastic athletic events

Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day

Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs

Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities

May be asked to coach extracurricular athletic activities

Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
