Nature of Work
Under general supervision, the teacher teaches one or more classes to students in grades for which a NC teaching license is held. The employee plans, organizes, and presents instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. The teacher assists in other school programs as assigned and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability.

Education and Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Certification and Licensure Requirements (if applicable)
Must hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator's License.

Essential Functions/Typical Tasks

Teach the North Carolina Standard Course of Study / Common Core and Essential Standards for assigned grade.

Plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments to help students learn subject matter and skills.

Conduct lessons or instructional activities at an appropriate brisk pace.

Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.

Instruct students in proper care and use of materials and equipment, and control their use to prevent loss or abuse.

Evaluate each student's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding, and prepare progress reports.

Select and requisition instructional materials, books, equipment, etc., and maintain inventory records.

Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional learning activities.

Cooperate with the appropriate administrator to develop the method of evaluation in conformance with district guidelines.

Speak fluently and precisely and present lessons using concepts and language understandable to the students.

Communicate with parents and school counselors about student progress.

Cooperate in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.

Participate in faculty and/or district committees and sponsor student activities.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.

Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the public.

Experience with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).

Experience with use of technology in instruction delivery to students.

Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects or tools, reach with hands, and occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to exert a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, and routinely lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Employees in this job must be energetic, flexible, and possess the visual acuity required for extensive reading and research. These requirements are consistent with Light work.
