Job Overview
Primary responsibility is cleaning of the distribution center (75% of duties). We perform routine cleaning including vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors; dusting, washing walls, doors, and windows, and emptying trash. We also perform minor preventative maintenance and repairs. Assist service personnel as needed, report major repair and maintenance needs, and assist with snow removal.
Sanitation Team Description
Our Warehouse Sanitation team maintains cleanliness and hygiene standards in the warehouse environment. This role involves routine cleaning of warehouse floors, shelves, restrooms, equipment, and other designated areas to ensure a safe, organized, and sanitary workspace. Workers must follow health and safety protocols, manage cleaning supplies, and use equipment such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, and pressure washers. Attention to detail, the ability to follow cleaning schedules, and adherence to safety regulations are critical in this role to prevent accidents, contamination, and promote overall operational efficiency. Responsibilities
Ensures that location has all needed janitorial equipment
Operates floor scrubber
Sweeps and vacuums dock plates
Sweeps and mops sanitation barriers
Empties trash bins from all locations in the cooler, grocery and loading dock, offices and break areas
Empties cardboard and plastic recycling and compacts
Keeps all areas free of debris such as wood fragments, pallet wrap, labels, and paper
Removes empty pallets and cleans and mops slots
Discards leaking product and records on reconciliation log
Reports any violation of company policy to supervisor or lead
Performs duties in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Safety Quality Food (SQF) policies and procedures, as appropriate for location
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Experience
Warehouse/Operations/Manufacturing experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Understanding of safety guidelines
Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers and mop
Understanding of procedures in other areas of the warehouse for a more global understanding of all processes
Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available
Work Environment
On‑site role: associate must perform all duties at one of our UNFI locations, such as a distribution center or office
Physical Environment and Demands
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently
Exposed to temperatures ranging from –20°F to 35°F in Perishable Operation and 37°F to 90°F in Grocery Operation
Ability to perform repetitive arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures
Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under equipment
Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places; ability to operate work‑related equipment
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Woodstock Farms: ability to work in an environment containing tree nuts, peanuts, soy, wheat, sesame, milk and different spices such as pepper and chili
Compensation
UNFI anticipates paying the referenced pay rate (or within the pay range) for this position. Actual pay, where applicable, depends on a number of factors including education, experience, training, and any requirements under applicable collective bargaining agreements.
