Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this full time contractual position is to serve in the department’s effort to fulfill the Board’s mission of protecting the public. The Investigations Agent will develop and be responsible for complaints to the Maryland Board of Nursing regarding potential breaches of the Nurse Practice Act. This role involves conducting investigations of licensed health care practitioners and is a major component in fulfilling the mission to protect the public.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage complaints related to potential breaches of the Nurse Practice Act.

Conduct investigations of licensed health care practitioners.

Apply knowledge of general standards of health care procedures and policies.

Utilize exceptional research and organizational skills.

Apply knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of healthcare.

Minimum Qualifications

Five years of experience conducting investigations in health care, insurance, medical malpractice or related investigative work as defined by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

OR possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus one year of investigative experience in the same areas.

OR U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Legal or Investigator classifications or related specialty codes, on a year-for-year basis.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications

Experience in assessing accurate documentation and record keeping.

Experience communicating effectively with patients, professionals, other healthcare workers, co‑workers, staff of other agencies, and the public.

Experience independently planning, organizing, and executing assigned tasks.

Experience exercising independent judgment and discretion regarding assigned tasks.

Experience preparing and presenting reports and recommendations clearly and concisely.

Experience maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

Technological experience including basic uses and capabilities of computers, information technology, and data security.

Benefits
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.

As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible for the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
