Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, NY, United States
Description
Title: Postdoctoral Fellow, Organic Synthesis and Medicinal Chemistry
Salary: $75,000
Department: Pharmacological Sciences
Location: Icahn Medical Institute, 1425 Madison Ave., NY, NY 10029
Supervisor: Professor Robert J. DeVita Ph.D.
Lab: https://labs.icahn.mssm.edu/devita-lab/
Department link: https://icahn.mssm.edu/about/departments/pharmacological-sciences
Responsibilities
The DeVita Lab pursues novel drug targets in collaboration with clinicians and PI labs at Mt Sinai, focusing on translational science to develop new therapeutics for unmet medical needs. Active projects include diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease/Crohn’s disease, cancer, and rare genetic diseases.
Tasks include synthesizing novel medicinal compounds for testing in vitro and in vivo assays that support the basic biology and drug discovery research efforts.
Qualifications
PhD in organic synthesis required. Knowledge of heterocyclic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, and structure‑based drug design (Schrodinger suite desired).
Experience in preparation, purification, and characterization of compounds in a chemistry laboratory, documentation in electronic lab notebooks, operation of HPLC and LC‑MS instruments, safe laboratory practices, and strong collaboration with chemistry and biology teams.
Strong background in organic chemistry, including synthesis, heterocyclic and organometallic chemistry; purification, characterization (NMR, TLC, LC‑MS); design of novel analogs and synthetic routes.
Competence in Schrodinger suite for structure‑based drug design and ligand docking desired.
~90% emphasis on medicinal chemistry; ~10% structure‑based drug design.
Preferred: doctorate in organic chemistry with experience in total synthesis, method development, rapid analog synthesis, multi‑step synthesis, scale‑up, microwave‑assisted synthesis, troubleshooting, and safe handling of reactive materials.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to prepare experimental procedures for manuscript submission and patent applications.
Compensation
Salary range: $72,500 – $80,000 annually. Actual salary depends on experience, education, and operational need. The range does not include bonuses or other forms of compensation.
