Responsibilities and Duties
At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Safety Specialist is responsible for providing safety leadership and safety guidance to all employees. The Safety Specialist's efforts will help to maintain compliance with Company, State, and Federal Regulations that enable the continued safety of all employees and business interests. The individual must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to perform effectively at all levels of the organization, while growing the skills necessary for future opportunities. An expectation of the role is to provide strategic focus in all areas to ensure US Segment Safety efforts drive toward the three strategic pillars of the Safety Strategy (Enabled Environment, Empowered People, Fit for Purpose Systems).
Provide leadership and mentoring to develop safety and health department staff
Provide guidance and technical support to Safety Department
Interface with regional US PGM leaders and Group leaders associated with compliance reporting requirements
Responsible for maintaining US PGM safety data, reporting weekly data to Senior level leaders within the business of safety and health trends, build and maintain safety data sheets and presentations.
Responsible for building Safety & Health learning content that can be used to train hourly and salary staff in person or through the Learning Management System
Promoting continual improvement of the Safety and Health Management System, ISO certification and on-going business improvement
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively work with multiple departments and facilities
Demonstrated ability to direct and plan activities in a professional and expedient manner
Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office products
Knowledge and understanding of 30 CFR, parts 56/57 (MSHA) and OSHA 30 CFR 1910 regulations
Demonstrated knowledge of Risk Management principles
Knowledge of ISO process and ICMM guidelines
MSHA approved Underground (IU) instructor (or ability to obtain)
Education & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent and/or a minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience at an operating mine / processing facility required
Safety Experience in an Industrial setting
Experience using SharePoint, Excel and data management
Experience working with and interpreting Safety statistics using a safety database
