Summer Education Staff – Program Specialist

Primary Function
The Summer Education Youth Development Professional plans, implements, and supervises academic enrichment and STEM-based programming, including science experiments, LEGO League, hands‑on STEM activities, and learning loss prevention programs. This position helps youth maintain and grow academic skills while supporting our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, and Good Character & Citizenship.
Youth Development Professionals will work within a Boys & Girls Club serving up to 100 youth (ages 6–18) daily and will lead groups of 5–20 members at a time through engaging, hands‑on educational programming.
Key Roles (Essential Job Responsibilities)
Inspire learning and curiosity through STEM and academic activities
Build supportive relationships
Recognize youth and their accomplishments
Deliver engaging educational opportunities and expectations
Always uphold safety
Create a clean, organized, and stimulating learning environment
Additional Roles
Program Facilitator: Creating and leading engaging and educational activities for club members.
Mentor: Building supportive and positive relationships with youth, serving as a role model and providing guidance.
Community Liaison: Developing partnerships with local organizations and businesses to enhance resources and opportunities for club members.
Youth Advocate: Empowering young people to become active and responsible citizens through advocacy and leadership development programs.
Behavior Manager: Implementing behavior management strategies to create a safe and respectful club environment.
Program Coordinator: Planning and organizing various programs and activities to meet the diverse needs and interests of club members.
Supportive Counselor: Providing emotional support and guidance to youth facing personal challenges and crises.
Educational Supporter: Assisting club members with homework, tutoring, and educational enrichment activities to support their academic success.

Skills / Knowledge Required
High School diploma or GED & currently working to complete a two or four-year degree
Experience working with children
Passion for education, STEM, and learning enrichment
Ability to plan and lead engaging academic programs and activities
Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
Knowledge of youth development
Valid State Driver’s License
Requirements
Candidates must be able to pass a Criminal Background Check & Drug Test
Training
Boys & Girls Club Basics & Safety 101 to be completed the first week of hire
30 Day - Complete the Milestone 1 trainings
60 Day - Complete Milestone 2 trainings
Attend Monthly trainings for positive youth development
Job Status
Seasonal - 30–40 hours
Dates: May 18th – August 1st
Schedule
Monday - Friday 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM or 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM
Pay Range
Starting at $15.25–$16.25 per hour, depending on experience
