Job Overview
The
Maintenance Technician
is essential to preserving the integrity, safety, and functionality of The Ben’s physical environment. This role ensures that all systems, equipment, and guest spaces operate seamlessly, supporting the elevated experience our guests expect. Working behind the scenes and across the property, the Maintenance Technician performs preventative maintenance, repairs, and inspections with precision and care. This role requires a hands‑on professional who is responsive, detail‑oriented, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety in a luxury hospitality setting.
Responsibilities
Maintenance & Repairs
Perform maintenance and repairs in specialized areas including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
Perform all essential functions of a Maintenance Technician I.
Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on all hotel equipment including kitchen, laundry, boiler, plumbing, pool, HVAC, electrical systems, and guest rooms.
Handle elevator breakdowns and coordinate repairs as needed.
Operational Support
Monitor and maintain engineering operations during periods when full engineering staff is not available (evenings, weekends, etc.).
Make regular rounds of the hotel property to ensure all systems and equipment are functioning properly.
Respond to guest maintenance requests in a courteous, efficient, and professional manner.
Emergency Response & Safety
Respond to emergency situations including fire alarms, power failures, and other urgent incidents.
Notify appropriate authorities and leadership as required.
Identify and report unsafe conditions to leadership immediately.
Documentation & Preventive Programs
Complete maintenance requests and work orders accurately and in a timely manner.
Take equipment readings, meter logs, and maintain detailed shift reports for continuity.
Document all parts used and identify materials that need to be ordered.
Maintain records of the Rooms Preventive Maintenance Program and Maintenance Request Program.
Equipment & Work Area Standards
Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in an organized and safe condition.
Ensure proper handling and storage of materials and supplies.
Follow all safety procedures and hotel engineering standards.
Qualifications
Education/Formal Training
High school diploma, plus two years or its equivalent in trade school or training in building maintenance/construction.
Experience
Minimum four years experience in mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry or building maintenance.
Knowledge/Skills
Must have basic working knowledge in the following areas: general plumbing, refrigeration, air conditioning, electrical systems, boilers, bathroom fixtures, and tiling painting—prep to finish basic carpentry groundskeeping.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Must be able to read written communiques, LED read‑outs, meters, and computer screens.
Must be able to pull levers and rotate knobs, work with arms raised above head and to handle and assemble small parts using basic hand and power tools.
Must be able to understand and follow verbal/written instructions, communicate both verbally and in writing, utilize analytical thought processes, understand verbal/written technical and mechanical instruction, and be highly organized.
Must be able to communicate effectively and courteously with employees, guests and contractors in writing, via telephone and in person.
Must be able to lift 75 lbs. throughout an 8-hour shift.
Must be able to crawl into and through small spaces, climb ladders, support and carry loads of 75 lbs.
May be required to drive.
Environment
Indoor exposure to both stable and extreme variance of hot and cold temperatures. Outside exposure to all weather elements and extreme fluctuations of temperature. Prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, and heavy lifting.
