Sr Specialist External Affairs

Overall Purpose
Responsible for supporting strategic communications and stakeholder engagement to advance the organization’s public policy objectives. This role reports to the Legislative Director and provides day‑to‑day support for special legislative projects, including researching, tracking, and summarizing legislation and related policy issues. The position also supports the Regional President and handles additional tasks as assigned in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Legislative Research, Policy Support, and Advocacy:

Analyzing legislation and regulatory issues. Researching, tracking, and summarizing legislation and related policy matters. Advocating for the company’s regulatory agenda during public hearings and meetings with state legislators and staff. Supporting special legislative projects and helping advance the company’s legislative agenda.

Stakeholder and Community Engagement:

Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, community groups, third‑party coalitions, and industry partners. Representing the company on local boards and commissions and acting as the face of the corporation in the communities served.

Scheduling, Meeting and Project Coordination:

Coordinating and scheduling industry and internal meetings to support legislative priorities and ensure timely follow‑through on action items. Scheduling meetings with lawmakers, facilitating industry meetings, and coordinating internally with policy and legal points of contact.

Event Coordination and Community Relations:

Organizing and managing community events to strengthen relationships between the community and elected officials. Promoting the company’s initiatives and addressing constituent concerns.

Legislative and Executive Operations Support:

Identifying witnesses, developing talking points and company collateral, attending hearings, and supporting legislative and external affairs operations.

Administrative and Strategic Support:

Supporting processes related to Political Action Committee (PAC) activity, internal collaboration, strategy development, leading lobbying activities, negotiations, addressing constituent concerns, grant management, and additional assignments in a fast‑paced environment.

Job Contribution
An experienced professional with in‑depth knowledge, applying organizational practices to resolve moderately difficult problems. Works with independent judgment on broad projects with minimal supervision, implementing policy changes to improve functions. Actions impact efficiency, costs, schedules, and client relationships. Education / Experience
Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) desired. 2+ years of related experience. Prior experience working in the Texas Legislature is desired. Certification is required in some areas. Must be able to communicate clearly, manage competing priorities, and maintain strong attention to detail.

earns between $96,000 – $144,000 USD annually. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
