Job Description
Position: Assistant to Treasurer – Payroll and Benefits

Reports to: Treasurer

General Responsibilities: Performs functions associated with payroll and employee benefits.

Specific Responsibilities

Demonstrates knowledge of federal, state and local rules, regulations and laws and adheres to established rules, regulations, laws and appropriate ethical standards.

Works cooperatively with school personnel, ability to be trustworthy and practice confidentiality.

Calculate and process bi-monthly payroll using the Uniform School Payroll System (USPS).

Process and report all payroll deductions and all payroll related returns and reports.

Engages in continuing education and professional growth activities related to payroll and benefits. Applies knowledge gained from continuing education activities.

Ability to review and analyze budgets and financial reports.

Maintain and integrate employee attendance records (sick/personal/vacation) using the Frontline system and USPS.

Maintain current salary and employment information on all district employees.

Maintain staff portion of EMIS.

Provide salary notices and/or employment contracts and W2 forms.

Calculate service credit as needed for retirement systems.

Assist Treasurer with preparation of reports as needed for financial statements, Auditors’ Office, and others as needed.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Treasurer.

Minimum Qualifications
Previous school setting experience preferred.

High school diploma required; Associate degree with training in accounting, data management or equivalent experience preferred.

Possess strong organizational skills, ability to collaborate with others, handle confidential matters, work well under pressure, demonstrate attention to detail and have strong written and verbal communication skills.

Computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Uniform School Accounting Software and Strategic Solutions system. Microsoft certification preferred.

Knowledge of payroll tax reporting, governmental fund accounting and federal and state regulations governing payroll and Ohio Revised Code processes, preferred.

Effectively complete job tasks and ability to prioritize workload and multitask to meet deadlines.

Demonstrate dependability/flexibility and good attendance.
