We are looking for U.S. citizens who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, including Reserves, National Guard, and service member spouses, to join our AWS team as a Data Center Technician. This role is a critical guardian of global cloud infrastructure, keeping data center operations running 24/7 to power millions of businesses and services worldwide.
Additional Information
Amazon does not sponsor immigration visas for this role.
A lump‑sum stipend will be provided to eligible candidates who relocate for this position.
Responsibilities
Perform server rack installations, hardware break‑fix on various components, troubleshoot network issues, and respond to operational incidents affecting service availability; escalating to senior technicians and management as needed.
Serve as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
Participate in on‑call duties, scheduled maintenance, and change management activities.
Contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues.
Help train and onboard new team members.
Day in the Life
Take ownership of technical issues brought by the customer base, engaging other teams when necessary to drive resolution.
Solve problems at root level and step back to understand broader context.
Maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting.
Work shift schedules that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays; travel within and outside the regional work area as required.
Physical Requirements
Regularly lift or move up to 40 pounds and participate in group lifts for 41+ pounds.
Work in cramped and/or elevated locations.
Perform bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching.
Stand and walk for up to 8+ hours a day.
Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and gangways safely.
Operate in noisy environments.
Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations, covering both night and day shifts.
Essential Requirements
Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed (over 50 miles or less).
Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility becomes operational.
Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status.
Basic Qualifications
High school or equivalent diploma.
1+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience.
Ability to work on a flexible schedule including days, nights, and/or weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system.
Experience working in a Data Center environment.
Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent professional or military experience in a relevant field (computer science, networking engineering, etc.).
Understanding of network design, protocols, and layer 1/2 troubleshooting.
