Summary:
Performs maintenance and repairs to District equipment and facilities; maintains the campus grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Repairs and maintains evaporative coolers, air conditioners, air handlers, thermostats; light fixtures, switches, electrical control panels, doors and locks, closets, windows, plumbing fixtures, water/gas pipe lines, roofs, painting, playground equipment, and water systems.
Performs preventive maintenance and routine repair of plumbing systems, including replacing fixtures, fixing water lines, unclogging toilets, and snaking drains.
Performs preventive maintenance and routine repair of heaters and air conditioning units, including replacing belts, motors, relays, thermostats, pumps, fuses, transformers, filters and fans.
Replaces electrical outlets, light fixtures, ballasts; installs time clocks for lights and checks photo cells on lights.
Moves equipment and furniture.
Performs minor repairs to shelves and furniture, builds simple fixtures, paints furniture and rooms.
Performs routine grounds maintenance, such as mowing and fertilizing grass, striping, and maintaining fields.
Operates and repairs power tools and other maintenance/repair equipment.
Trims trees and shrubs using chainsaws.
Plants and maintains plants, shrubs, trees, flowers, and grass.
Mows, prunes, and trims plant growth as needed.
Removes weeds and debris from walks, stairs, and fence lines.
Repairs sprinkler heads and irrigation water pipe systems.
Operates various power equipment.
Installs and maintains irrigation systems.
Sprays herbicides and pesticides.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively to employees; perform math operations essential for job requirements; apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagram instructions; handle standardized problem situations.
Education, Experience, and/or Certificates:
Valid Class One Arizona Fingerprint clearance; high school diploma or GED; one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Demands
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee frequently climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. Requires lifting and moving up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Noise level is usually moderate.
