Position Overview
At the Texas Education Agency’s Office of Governance, the Investigators (Investigator V) role supports school systems, keeps students safe, and upholds Texas education law with integrity and excellence. The Educator Investigations Division (EID) protects student safety by investigating alleged misconduct involving teachers and other school employees.
The Intake Unit ensures compliance with child abuse reporting, reviews allegations, conducts preliminary reviews, and recommends formal investigations. The Investigations Unit conducts formal investigations into allegations of misconduct by educators and employees, ensuring due process and protecting student welfare.
In this role, you will conduct advanced investigations, analyze findings, document evidence, and support litigation and presentation to stakeholders.
Essential Functions
Conduct preliminary reviews and complex investigations into reports and complaints related to educator misconduct, including child abuse, solicitation, ethics violations, and other compliance concerns.
Analyze information from complaints and investigative findings to assess risk and recommend case resolution, applying state, federal, and agency policies.
Maintain thorough documentation and prepare professional reports, case briefings, and referrals for internal and external stakeholders.
Provide testimony and locate evidence in administrative, civil, or criminal proceedings, supporting enforcement and compliance actions.
Support division operations through special projects, collaborating with legal staff, colleagues, and external agencies to improve investigative outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university.
At least four (4) years of experience conducting background checks, reviewing allegations of misconduct, or performing investigations.
Education and experience may substitute for one another on a year‑for‑year basis.
Other Qualifications
Commitment that all Texas students can achieve at high levels and succeed in college, career, or the military.
Working knowledge of and ability to explain state and federal laws and regulations regarding child abuse, solicitation, misconduct, fraud, waste, abuse, criminal violations, and confidentiality (e.g., Texas Penal Code, Education Code, Family Code, Administrative Code).
Pass a DPS Criminal Background Check.
Experience conducting investigations and complaint reviews according to defined procedures and time standards.
Demonstrated ability to adapt to and engage with diverse individuals and stakeholders.
Strong problem‑solving, time‑management, and organizational skills, including prioritizing competing projects.
Desire to self‑reflect, give and receive feedback, and continually improve.
Willingness to participate in the agency’s culture of continuous improvement and espouse its core values.
Preferred: experience reviewing abuse, solicitation, or violations impacting students.
Preferred: Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certification.
