Job Description
Teaching Assistant (Pre‑K) for a temporary position during the 2025‑26 school year.

General Definition of Work
Provides responsible administrative, clerical, and human support to the classroom teacher in managing and instructing students, performing tasks as directed under the teacher’s supervision.

Essential Functions

Carries out instructional plans designated by the classroom teacher and the student’s IEP.

Follow‑up and review lessons.

Develops and maintains a pleasant and orderly classroom environment (maintain instructional materials, design bulletin boards, assist with clean‑up).

Assists the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom behavior and control.

With teacher’s approval, performs discipline of students.

Procures, sets up, and operates audio‑visual equipment.

Assists students in completing learning tasks assigned by teachers.

Assists with instructional activities such as field trips, library, and assemblies.

Assists with physical movement of students between learning environments.

Records attendance and collects lunch monies as directed.

Performs clerical duties (typing, filing, duplicating) as directed.

Supervises students in lunchroom or during lunch period.

Supervises students during free time and other non‑instructional periods.

Assists in maintaining students’ records under supervision.

Assists with toileting, feeding, and positioning of students.

Participates in team meetings.

Assists with medical‑related duties such as catheterization, gastrointestinal feedings, assistive breathing, colostomy and ileostomy needs.

Assists with carry‑over services including occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech, adapted physical education, and vision.

Performs other duties as assigned by classroom teacher or principal.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward disabled students; willingness to learn specialized instructional/management techniques; communication and effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff; high school graduate or equivalent; willingness to obtain and maintain CPR certification.

Education and Experience
High school graduation or equivalent; basic keyboard and filing skills.

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work
Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 40 pounds; occasional travel on field trips; movement of students by wheelchairs; lifting equipment up to 50 pounds; occasional attendance to conferences, meetings, and training beyond normal hours; daily close contact with children; regular contact with staff, parents, medical professionals; tact and diplomacy required for community and division‑level interactions.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the responsibilities.
