The Department of Community Resources (DCR) through its Community Resource Center supports core departments of Mecklenburg County Health and Human Services (HHS) in doing their business through an integrated service delivery model of subject-matter experts from each core department and community partners who provide services to County residents in our HHS Community Resource Center. In addition, DCR is responsible for administering Child Support Services, Economic Services, MeckSuccess, HOMES, and Unified Workforce Development programs, as well as Integrated Health and Human Services Mail Services.
This is a part-time, temporary position. The selected candidate will support the Department Monday – Friday up to 20 hours a week. Shifts may vary between 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Applicants should be comfortable with scheduling flexibility within these time frames.
Additionally, the selected candidate is required to position themselves to maintain equipment such as computers, servers, machinery, etc up to 50 pounds. This role involves a substantial amount of physical activity, including extended periods of walking and standing while servicing customers.
This is a customer-facing position that will interact with Health and Human Services (HHS) customers, staff within the Community Resource Center (CRC) and community partner agencies. The incumbent will organize and maintain the food pantry located at the CRC by working with community partners to provide an emergency supply of food to customers in need. This incumbent will have an understanding of CRC services and processes and works as part of the CRC team to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers. This position will also provide administrative back-up to other clerical functions within the CRC.
Position Summary
The position is responsible for coordinating and evaluating programs that provide crucial services to individuals and families in need. This classification ensures programs are effective, comply with rules, and are in line with the organization’s objective to improve community well-being. The specialist serves as a liaison between service providers, community partners, and participants to foster comprehensive support systems.

Essential Functions
Organize and maintain the food pantry including monitoring inventory, ordering, and stocking supplies
Coordinate with community partner agencies to ensure food pantry has adequate food supplies, including fresh produce
Collaborate with CRC staff members to determine if customers meet eligibility requirements to receive emergency food assistance
Represent the department by attending meetings held by community partners to maintain knowledge of required policy and procedure
Prepare monthly reports regarding assistance provided to customers in need
Enter accurate data into required database to avoid duplication and overuse of services
Maintain a daily and weekly temperature and cleaning logs; ensure Food Pantry is clean, safe and operationally ready
Work with supervisor to assess volunteer needs and train volunteers in proper food pantry procedures
Keep current with CRC process changes and ensure that customer communications reflect the correct and current protocols
Communicate new ideas, solutions, and observations to enhance overall service delivery
Collaborate with staff to function in support of each other to achieve the mission of HHS and Mecklenburg County; assist with additional lobby services as needed (including, but not limited to, the Document Counter, Kid’s Corner, Computer Room, and Customer Navigator)
May temporarily work at other CRC locations
Maintain county standards in professional appearance
Plan, implement, and oversee assigned social service programs and initiatives
Conduct needs assessments and suggest program improvements to help close any gaps in service delivery
Partner together and coordinate with service providers, governmental organizations, and community groups
Complete the necessary paperwork for services and support programs
Conduct research and assimilate information for the planning and implementation of activities in specified programs
Address participant concerns and ensure that services provided are client-centered
Collect, analyze, and report program data to measure effectiveness and guide improvements
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of two years of related experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
Four years of clerical experience in area of assignment
2 years of experience in professional teamwork environment and 2 years of customer service experience
Associate’s degree preferred in a related field
Bilingual (Spanish and English) proficiency oral and written
Licenses and Certifications
Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's license
Requires County Driving Privileges
