
Monitor Technician- Full Time, Nights, 7 PM - 7 AM, Cardiac Telemetry, Atlantic

The Monitor Technician is responsible for continuous monitoring of cardiac rhythm patterns for patients in a special care or telemetry unit. This role involves identifying abnormal rhythm variances, documenting findings, and promptly notifying nursing staff to support timely patient assessment and intervention. The Monitor Technician works closely with nurses and clinical teams to support high-quality, patient-centered care.
Principal Accountabilities
Review patient medical information to determine baseline heart rhythm patterns, current rhythms, and any prior variances
Continuously observe cardiac monitor screens and respond to alarms to identify abnormal heart rhythm patterns
Promptly notify the supervisor or assigned Registered Nurse of observed rhythm variances to initiate patient examination
Measure heart rhythm patterns on telemetry or graphic tape readouts using calipers and accurately document findings in patient records
Answer calls for assistance from patients and respond to inquiries from medical and nursing staff as appropriate
Prepare and maintain accurate documentation related to cardiac monitoring evaluations, progress reports, and individualized care considerations
Utilize telemetry equipment in accordance with hospital policies and safety standards
Perform other related duties as assigned to support unit workflow and patient care operations
Qualifications
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of a cardiac monitoring, telemetry, or Monitor Technician training program or equivalent clinical experience
Ability to accurately read, interpret, and document basic cardiac rhythms
Strong attention to detail and ability to remain focused in a fast‑paced monitoring environment
Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with nursing and clinical staff
Preferred:
Previous experience in a telemetry unit, ICU, or acute‑care hospital setting
National certification as a Monitor Technician or equivalent
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) and telemetry systems
