Overview
The Telemetry Monitor Technician is responsible for continuous monitoring, interpretation, communication, and documentation of cardiac rhythms, rhythm components, and telemetry indicators for multiple patients. The technician will view electrocardiographic displays, monitor non‑invasive cardiac activity, notify healthcare personnel of variances, and collaborate with clinical staff across Appalachian Regional Healthcare facilities. He or she will also troubleshoot routine technical concerns and coordinate repairs with biomedical equipment personnel.

Responsibilities

Monitor multiple patients’ cardiac activity on an electrocardiographic display and communicate changes in pattern to appropriate healthcare personnel.

Respond to alarms to ensure safe patient care.

Review patient information to determine baseline cardiac rhythm and prior variances, accurately documenting rhythms in the medical record.

Maintain and update records for each patient to ensure accurate documentation and appropriate care.

Troubleshoot and identify routine technical concerns with monitoring systems, completing repairs or contacting biomedical equipment personnel as needed.

Utilize telephone and overhead paging technology to communicate with the patient care team across ARH facilities.

Attend regularly to carry out essential job functions.

Review and meet ongoing education and competency requirements to maintain the skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the role.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

— High school diploma or equivalent, required. Successful completion of an ECG Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation course within three months of hire OR a score of 85% or greater on the Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation Challenge Exam upon hire, required. Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course, preferred.

One year experience as a Telemetry Monitor Technician, preferred.

One year experience with direct patient care, preferred.

Certification in telemetry monitoring or a related field.

Experience in a clinical setting.

Proficiency with telemetry monitoring equipment.

Strong communication skills.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Detail‑oriented with strong observational skills.

Knowledge of medical terminology.

Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms accurately.

Team player with a collaborative attitude.

Ability to remain alert and focused during long shifts.

Proficient computer skills for maintaining patient records.
