Position Overview
The Mill Superintendent leads the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of a copper (preferred) concentrator, overseeing crushing, grinding, flotation, dewatering, and tailings systems. This role is responsible for delivering production KPIs, driving continuous improvement, and providing strong, visible leadership across the operations team while coordinating closely with maintenance, metallurgy, and mine operations.

Job Responsibilities

Lead daily mill operations to meet production targets, recovery, and throughput KPIs

Oversee crushing, grinding, flotation, thickening, filtration, and tailings handling systems

Optimize plant performance by monitoring grind size, flotation parameters (reagents, pH, airflow), and recovery metrics

Collaborate with metallurgical and technical teams to improve plant performance and implement process improvements

Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and company standards across all operations

Supervise, mentor, and develop mill operations staff; ensure training completion and competency sign‑offs

Own and manage SOPs, ensuring documents are current, followed, and continuously improved

Analyze production data to identify trends and drive improvements in recovery, efficiency, and cost per tonne

Coordinate with maintenance, mine operations, and other departments to ensure consistent feed and production plans

Troubleshoot operational issues across processing circuits to minimize downtime and maintain stability

Manage reagents and consumables, including inventory, usage optimization, and safe handling

Support tailings and water management systems to ensure proper operation and environmental compliance

Lead and support continuous improvement and capital projects related to plant and process upgrades

Provide accurate operational data for reporting and planning purposes

Qualifications

5–10+ years of mining experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role (concentrator experience required, copper preferred)

Strong knowledge of mineral processing, including crushers, grinding circuits, flotation, dewatering, and tailings systems

Proven leadership ability with experience managing teams, meeting KPIs, and driving performance

Experience with SOP development, training programs, and operational standardization

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills

Effective communicator with the ability to coordinate across departments and levels

Proficient in Microsoft Office and operational reporting tools

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field is an asset

Valid driver’s license and ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments

Willingness to work in a 24/7 operation, including on‑call support

Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement

Physical Demands
To be eligible for this position, an individual must possess the following requirements to perform the essential job functions:

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking on uneven surfaces, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.

Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather.

Able to operate a telephone and mine phone/radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of communicating information.

Able to hear sufficiently to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms.

Able to lift up to 25 pounds periodically.
