
Global Tooling Engineer

Overview
Global Tooling Engineer for Medical and non-Medical tooling programs. This person will quote and select vendors for tool build, provide knowledgeable input to the design, track mold build, and provide objective evidence and document the evidence. In addition, this person will be responsible for Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)/T0 and tuning the mold to meet the specifications of the part print. Transitioning the mold to production is to be smooth and thorough.
Key Responsibilities
Drive the build and tuning of Medical and non-medical molds through design, FAT, IQ, OQ, PQ, and control plans; document all findings.
Interact positively and communicate with customers, suppliers, and operational personnel to achieve business objectives.
Lead tool design and oversee tool build, collaborating with customers, tool shops, and site personnel.
Assess and validate tolerances for plastic and steel parts, applying GD&T, CTQs and other dimension categories.
Apply statistical techniques for analyzing data.
Handle medical manufacturing processes, part sterilization, post‑molding operations and Design of Experiments; conduct hands‑on work in all areas mentioned.
Maintain deep knowledge of at least a dozen materials (PC, PE, PP, ABS, TPE, PET, PVC, Silicones, Blends, filled materials, additives, colorants, moisture measurement) and articulate their advantages and disadvantages.
Use PCs proficiently; be above average with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and possess at least average CAD skills for mold design reviews.
Match tools with machines, EOAT, class 101 molds, and support assembly, dis‑assembly, maintenance, and improvement of tooling.
Deliver clear Design‑for‑Molding feedback on design and drawing specifications.
Understand SIM, cavity‑to‑cavity balance and injection mold processing.
Support tooling and production engineering through problem identification, troubleshooting, resolution, and continuous improvement.
Travel up to 60% internationally and domestically.
Collaborate with large teams and hold the project team and vendors to a high standard.
Education & Experience
A two‑year degree in an Engineering field is required. A four‑year degree is a plus. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the plastics industry with emphasis on mold/part design.
Skills
Injection molding process knowledge, mechanical aptitude, leadership, project management, effective communication and interpersonal skills, advanced computer skills in mold and part design/drawings, medical molding experience (PFMEA, FAT, IQ, OQ, PQ) is a big plus.
