Engineering Manager (Location: South Shore, MA area nearRandolph, Avon, and Canton, MA) Job Summary: Position is responsible for providing senior-level mold design, tooling, and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) expertise and department leadership in support of medical cable assembly and connector products. The position supports both new product development and sustaining engineering activities, with specific focus on injection-molded connector components, TPU/TPE over-molded parts, and low-pressure molded interim shot tooling. The client produces cable assemblies and connectors for the medical industry. This position plays a big role in leading “Design for Moldability” analysis to suggest part design changes with the engineering team, and conceptualizes mold tooling approaches with the suppliers. In addition, prior experience leading a tool room is beneficial for this role. Having experience with leading a tool rom and deeply understanding the equipment used, and needs of that team, is ideal for this position. Essential Functions: Lead and manage an internal tool shop with toolmakers and mold design engineers on staff. Lead DFMfunctions and review on new product designs, identifying draft requirements, parting lines, undercuts, shut-offs, wall transitions, and tooling risks. Design and/or review injection molds for medical connector components, over-molded strain reliefs, and cable assemblies. Support tooling concepts including gating, venting, cooling, steel conditions, surface finishes, slides, lifters, and other mold actions. Partner with product engineering to ensure designs are manufacturable, robust, and cost-effective. Interface with external domestic and offshore mold shops during tool design, build, debug, and qualification. Assist sustaining engineering teams with tooling-related issues, yield improvements, and design updates. RequiredSkills/Qualifications: 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in mold design, tooling, or toolmaking. Design for Moldability experience. Design for Manufacturability (DFM) experience. Previous managerial experience or team lead experience working in similar environments. Associates' degree or higher in engineering, manufacturing, or related technical field (or equivalent hands-on experience). Working proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD software. Ability to conduct effective DFM and tooling feasibility reviews with engineering and suppliers. Strong background in medical device or regulated manufacturing environments. Experience working with global manufacturing partners. Desired Skills/Qualifications: Prior experience leading a Tool Room is desirable. Experience in medical connector and cable assembly mold design, tooling engineering, and/or toolmaking. Background as a journeyman toolmaker or significant shop floor experience. Familiarity with medical validation environments (IQ/OQ/PQ awareness).
