A master's degree, or its equivalent, representing intensive course work in principles and practice of educational guidance; educational testing and measurement; counseling; the organization and administration of guidance services; and the psychology of learning
A Valid ADE certificate as School Counselor
Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience preferred
Valid AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Other qualifications as the Governing Board may deem appropriate
Job Goal
Assists in creating an environment that lends to learning and growth for children and helps the individual child to grow in self-understanding for positive maximum use of his/her potential.
Essential Duties
Coordinates and facilitates regular RTI Meetings
Assists in the resolution of discipline problems when appropriate.
Provides weekly reports to Building Administration on management of counseling responsibilities. Weekly reports or progress updates would include data and relevant information to school leadership tied to continuous school improvement goals and objectives, and other reports as requested by Building Administration.
Counsels children individually and in groups in order to assist them in increased personal growth, self-understanding and maturity. Meets with students on a regular basis and documents all meetings.
At high school, meets regularly with students assigned to counselor making sure students are scheduled in appropriate classes, students and parents are informed when students are falling behind on credits, and plans are put in place to help student get back on track to graduate.
Consults with the child’s parents and family members regarding school related matters.
Works with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services available.
Assist in matters concerning the academic development of students, aids in course and subject selection (secondary).
Interprets the guidance program to the community; contributes toward development of drop-out strategies.
Provides training in guidance for teachers as necessary.
Work closely with Academic Coach and Principal in their roles of helping teachers use testing/assessment data to identify and meet RTI needs of students.
May serve as test coordinator for the school in connection with tests required by the District; State Assessments for the school, administers AZELLA, monitors ELL students, and manages ELL Red Folder files (unless Principal designates responsibilities for these areas to another staff member).
Maintains student records relating to the counseling program and protects their confidentiality.
Provides information to students regarding college admission and potential employment opportunities (secondary).
Formulates and supervises a training program for the counselor trainee.
Assists in setting the master schedule for the school (secondary).
Schedules students into classes (elementary, middle school, secondary).
Meets deadline for scheduling students into classes for the following school year prior to last day of counselor’s current year contract. These are tentative schedules for the following school year. With the exception of approved schedule changes for legitimate reasons or new student enrollments, schedules need to be finalized prior to the first day of school.
Works with the school staff in the area of attendance if required.
Records test scores onto student’s permanent record if required.
Provides growth and development classes/trainings for Middle School students.
Works with community and governmental agencies on problems relating to drug abuse and truancy issues.
Assist with overall campus supervision and security matters.
Assumes responsibility for inventory control in assigned area.
Helps students evaluate career interests and choices (secondary).
Follows the ASCA Framework from the National School Model.
Performs other work related duties as assigned.
