We are seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to support a federal client in Washington, DC. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure hybrid infrastructure environments across on-premises and cloud platforms. The position focuses on systems engineering, identity and access management, infrastructure operations, and compliance with federal cybersecurity requirements.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on infrastructure engineer with strong experience managing enterprise systems in hybrid environments, with a focus on stability, security configuration, and operational continuity.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and manage hybrid IT infrastructure spanning on‑premises and cloud environments
Administer and support Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Entra ID environments
Manage identity and access services including conditional access policies, MFA configuration, and identity governance
Engineer, maintain, and support virtualized infrastructure using VMware or equivalent platforms
Integrate and support network and security infrastructure leveraging Cisco technologies
Implement system hardening controls and STIG‑based configurations across enterprise systems
Perform patch management, vulnerability remediation, system updates, and configuration management
Ensure systems comply with FISMA requirements and other federal cybersecurity standards and directives
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to integrate security controls into system architecture and operations
Install, configure, and maintain servers, storage systems, and related infrastructure components
Troubleshoot complex infrastructure, performance, and integration issues across hybrid environments
Develop and maintain system documentation including SOPs, configuration records, and architecture diagrams
Support disaster recovery planning, backup strategies, and continuity of operations for critical systems
Participate in project planning and system integration activities to support infrastructure modernization efforts
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience accepted
6+ years of experience in IT systems engineering, infrastructure administration, or enterprise systems support
Government experience required
Strong hands‑on experience with:
Microsoft Azure environments (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
Microsoft 365 administration
Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID
Identity management including MFA and conditional access configuration
VMware virtualization platforms or equivalent technologies
Cisco networking and infrastructure technologies
Experience implementing STIGs, system hardening, and federal configuration standards
Experience performing patch management, vulnerability remediation, and system lifecycle support
Strong understanding of FISMA, NIST guidelines, and federal IT security requirements
Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments (on‑premises and cloud integration)
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and infrastructure problem‑solving skills
Experience developing technical documentation including SOPs and system architecture documentation
Desired Qualifications
Microsoft Azure certifications (AZ‑104, AZ‑305, or equivalent)
VMware certifications (e.g., VCP or equivalent)
Experience with PowerShell or other automation/scripting tools
Experience supporting disaster recovery and business continuity planning
Exposure to cloud security and zero trust architecture concepts
Experience supporting federal IT modernization or cloud migration initiatives
Experience collaborating with cybersecurity operations teams or SOC environments
