Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is hiring a Per Diem UCHC Technician I for the East Jersey State Prison in Rahway, NJ. The Technician I serves as a member of the clinical and administrative medical team at the facility.

Responsibilities

Takes vital signs, height and weight, and documents them in electronic medical records (EMR).

Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing inmates for examinations.

Collects and handles specimens, including drawing blood.

Cleans, sterilizes, and secures equipment within the Health Service Unit.

Maintains or assists in maintaining supply stock in the Health Service Unit and examination rooms by ordering supplies timely and appropriately.

Aggregates medication orders and forwards them to the pharmacy provider or local pharmacy.

Qualifications

Valid Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification.

At least two (2) years of progressively responsible healthcare experience across multiple settings, demonstrating competencies to perform the essential duties.

CPR certification.

Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to and from the site.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The role requires the ability to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes and to assist in lifting and rotating patients who cannot ambulate, up to 50 pounds.

Other Conditions
Approval by the Department of Corrections (DOC) is required and all DOC requirements must be adhered to.
