Position Overview
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse holds shift accountability for providing high-quality, evidence-based care to critically ill and high-risk newborns. The NICU RN utilizes the Nursing Process in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies and procedures. This role requires strong critical thinking, clinical judgment, and leadership skills to ensure safe and effective patient care delivery in a Level III NICU setting.

Patient Ratio:
1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity
EMR:
Cerner
Required Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of NICU experience
Level III NICU experience
Preferred Qualifications
STABLE Certification
If census is low, travelers may be floated to Postpartum to take a newborn assignment or couplets, if experienced.
Expected Responsibilities
Attend
high-risk and newborn deliveries
Perform
NICU admissions
Start
IVs
and
draw labs
Manage and monitor patients on
ventilators
Deliver comprehensive, family-centered neonatal care
Demonstrate leadership, sound clinical judgment, and critical thinking
Maintain clinical competencies through ongoing education
Delegate and supervise patient care activities appropriately based on staff skill level and experience
Professional Expectations
Anticipate and plan for safe delivery of patient care
Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
Provide direction and supervision to assigned personnel involved in patient care
Uphold hospital standards, policies, and procedures at all times
