Position Overview
The Manager of Academic & Post‑Secondary Success leads school‑wide efforts to ensure students are academically prepared, on track for graduation, and equipped for college and career success. This role oversees academic counseling, student support systems, and comprehensive college and career readiness programming, using data‑driven practices to monitor progress and implement targeted interventions. As a key member of the School Leadership Team, the Manager supervises staff, leads master scheduling, and manages academic and intervention programs to ensure equitable access to rigorous coursework and supports. They collaborate across departments, including Special Education and Data teams, to align academic pathways with post‑secondary goals, while engaging families and overseeing systems that track student performance and outcomes. Through strategic leadership and continuous improvement, this role plays a critical part in advancing student achievement and long‑term success. This position reports to the Principal.
Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Leads the development and continuous improvement of academic and post‑secondary initiatives aligned to school goals
Designs and maintains systems to support students’ academic, social‑emotional, and post‑secondary success
Ensures compliance with organizational policies and federal/state education regulations
Serves on the School Leadership Team, contributing to strategic planning and school‑wide improvement
Collaborates with school leadership to implement initiatives that enhance academic outcomes and school culture
Oversees systems to address academic concerns and ensure timely, effective resolution
Oversees academic counseling systems, including caseload management, scheduling, and intervention structures
Manages a targeted caseload of students requiring intensive academic support and progress monitoring
Leads transcript reviews and ensures accuracy of academic records to support on‑track graduation and post‑secondary outcomes
Develops and monitors Individualized Graduation Plans and implements credit recovery and alternative pathways for students
Tracks student progress through data systems, grade monitoring, and intervention planning
Facilitates conferences and leads family engagement efforts around academic progress and post‑secondary planning
Oversee and manage a comprehensive, school‑wide college and career readiness program, including SAT/ACT preparation, career assessments, college visits, fairs, workshops, and signature events such as College & Career Decision Day
Develops and implements a data‑driven advising model to ensure all students have individualized post‑secondary plans
Collaborates across departments to align academic programming with college, career, and workforce readiness goals
Partner with the Data Team to compile, analyze, and monitor academic and post‑secondary outcomes for grades 9–12, ensuring alignment with the Adjusted Cohort Graduation Rate (ACGR) and Workforce/Post‑Secondary charter goals
Lead alumni engagement efforts, including outreach, programming, and tracking of post‑secondary placement and persistence using systems such as ETO and PowerSchool
Lead the development and management of the master schedule and oversee individual student scheduling to ensure equitable access to rigorous coursework and required supports
Manage online instructional platforms (e.g., Edgenuity) to support credit recovery, intervention, and personalized learning pathways
Oversee academic intervention programs, including Virtual Learning, Twilight Program, and Saturday School, ensuring effectiveness and alignment with student needs
Collaborate with the Special Education Department to ensure students are scheduled in co‑taught classes and receive services aligned to their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Supervise and evaluate the Academic Counselor and Post‑Secondary Success Counselor
Provide coaching, feedback, and professional development to ensure high‑quality implementation of academic and post‑secondary supports
Collaborate with school leadership to ensure alignment, accountability, and continuous improvement across teams
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Principal and/or Chief of Schools to support student success and school‑wide goals
Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrates high ethical standards, integrity, and professionalism while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams and across the school community
Communicates clearly and effectively (written, verbal, and presentation) and builds strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, staff, and administrators
Understands adolescent development and has experience supporting youth in school and/or community‑based settings
Uses strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to interpret student data, inform decisions, implement interventions, and respond to crises
Maintains accurate, compliant documentation and effectively monitors student progress and outcomes
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment as both a self‑starter and team contributor
Committed to a strength‑based, student‑centered approach that motivates, supports, and empowers student growth and achievement
Qualifications
A Master’s degree in school counseling is strongly preferred; other related fields (education, psychology, community, or mental health) or an advanced degree will be considered
At least 5 years of Guidance Counselor experience, and/or experience working with caseloads of students
Familiar with school information systems (i.e., PowerSchool, ETO, etc.)
