Job Overview
WJZ TV CBS News Baltimore is seeking a Weekend Meteorologist/MMJ Reporter to join our award‑winning weather team.
Responsibilities
Create accurate, engaging local forecasts and graphics aligned with the First Alert Weather brand across all platforms
Work collaboratively with the weather team and news management to issue Alert Days and weather warnings, produce supporting graphics and maps, and report live during significant weather events
Present weather forecasts on air and deliver live shots in the field across multiple newscasts and platforms
Serve as a regular on‑air contributor and reporter for WJZ at 9, including community‑based and lifestyle storytelling
Report, write, shoot, and edit engaging, informative, and compelling news content for broadcast and digital
Write forecasts and produce weather content for digital and streaming platforms, including CBS News Baltimore’s website
Collaborate closely with producers, anchors, news managers, and the digital team to execute the station’s overall weather and content strategy
Drive ideas and help conceptualize dynamic weather presentations using state‑of‑the‑art AR/VR technology
Represent WJZ at community events, station initiatives, and local activations when assigned
Qualifications
Minimum five years of on‑air experience as a Broadcast Meteorologist
AMS or NWA Seal of Approval preferred (or ability to obtain within a reasonable time frame)
Strong MMJ and multi‑skilled reporting experience, including shooting and editing video
Proven ability to work independently on community‑based stories and live field reports
Experience delivering unscripted live content and engaging directly with local communities
Demonstrated ability to publish forecasts, graphics, and related content across multiple digital platforms
Experience with Weather Company technologies and Augmented Reality technologies and processes
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and fill‑in shifts as needed
Education
Bachelor’s degree in meteorology or Atmospheric Science required.
Compensation and Benefits
Hiring salary range: $90,000.00 – $105,000.00. The range applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay depends on geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
