Essential Functions / Typical Tasks
Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests and abilities of students.
Regularly meet and instruct assigned classes in designated locations and times.
Create a classroom environment that encourages student participation and achievement of learning objectives.
Provide an instructional program that meets the needs of all students.
Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units and projects and communicating them to students.
Establish learning objectives consistent with student needs, the Rappahannock County Public Schools curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.
Utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives.
Take all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, Rappahannock County School Board policy and administrative regulation.
Submit required reports within specified timelines regarding scheduling and instructional activity as requested by the school administration.
Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Develop reasonable classroom behavior rules and procedures, maintaining order fairly.
Provide parental availability for education-related purposes outside instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
Establish and maintain respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.
Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
Attend all staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Perform other duties assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal, Supervisor of Special Education, or Division Superintendent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of school curriculum and framework, policies and effective instructional practices.
Thorough understanding of the teaching and learning process.
Ability to provide instruction reflecting multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
Respect for confidential information and individuals’ right to privacy.
Effective communication with students, colleagues, administration, parents, central office and community patrons.
Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
Model professional, moral and ethical standards as well as personal integrity.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable field of education or equivalent in credentialing, training and/or experience.
Possession of or qualification for a professional license and appropriate endorsement as presented by the Virginia Department of Education.
Recommendation by the Division Superintendent and approval by the School Board.
Physical Demands and Requirements
Duties are performed typically in the central office and throughout the division. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, lifting up to approximately 40 pounds, occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office required. Vocal communication, hearing and visual acuity required. Regular contact with staff, administrators and parents; phone and in-person communication necessary. Timely and regular attendance is expected. Reasonable accommodations may be provided to allow individuals with disabilities to perform essential tasks.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated by the supervisor based on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
