Performance evaluated annually by the Coordinator of Maintenance and Facilities in accordance with WV State Code
Job Summary
This position maintains all aspects of the electrical systems in the County’s physical facilities in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times while ensuring compliance with State and County building codes and State Fire Marshall Regulations.
Performance Responsibilities
Maintain regular attendance.
Take primary responsibility for the safe condition of electrical elements in county-owned facilities.
Accurately order and account for material and labor.
Maintain all safety and code requirements of state, county, and Board of Education policies.
Determine which repair jobs may be performed by custodian, general maintenance, or outside contractor.
Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase; maintain inventory of county-owned tools, equipment, and supplies.
Perform preventative maintenance of county-owned facilities.
Oversee installation and operation of all lighting and electrical sound equipment.
Keep service vehicle well-maintained and inventoried.
Perform tasks within classification as instructed.
Specific Assignment Responsibilities – Electrician II
Assume primary responsibility for safe condition, maintenance, and repair of lighting fixtures, electrical apparatus, wiring, air conditioning, refrigeration, heating units, and similar electric elements.
Use proper methods and tools in electrical repair work.
Recommend supplies and equipment; maintain inventory.
Estimate costs of electrical repair projects.
Install and operate all lighting and electrical sound equipment in auditoriums and gymnasiums for events.
Inspect facilities for preventive maintenance.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Criminal background check allowed by WV Code.
Demonstrated competency per WV Code §18A-4-8e (state-approved competency test).
Valid West Virginia driver’s license.
Ability to write reports and complete work orders.
Ability to present information and respond to questions.
Basic arithmetic skills.
Apply fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations.
Interface effectively with other departments, staff, contractors.
Work on ladders, assemble scaffolds, operate motorized lifts.
Use computer programs related to electrical systems.
Obtain food worker permit if required.
Apply practical problem‑solving skills.
Interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Accurately perform assigned tasks.
Comply fully with county and Board policies.
Physical Demands
The job requires stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pulling, pushing. Frequently lift and move at least 75 pounds. Requires close vision to read handwritten or typed material and adjust focus. Must interact well with public and staff.
Work Environment
Indoor and outdoor settings; temperature range below freezing to 90°F. Work surfaces include crawl spaces, attics, rooftops, walk‑in freezers, concrete floors/pads. Noise level moderate to loud (60‑90 dB).

Individuals who have retired from a West Virginia school system are not eligible for re‑employment until 60 days after retirement. (West Virginia Code §5‑10‑48)
